Tidy site for the dales but Wardens have an attitude problem

Nice site, well maintained and just right for adults, not much if anything for children to do. Problem is the Wardens have a real and outdated attitude problem especially relating to arrival. With even headquaters relaxing on arrival times these Wardens are really wound up. In the time it took to book 3 units in we were given a full blast of attitude : you've messed my dinner up again, good job i am not diabetic, I get this hassle every day, I don't have to work for the club, I am not coming back here next year. We then heard the 2 men Wardens walking outside and mimicking a member booking in and laughing about the gesture, the final bang was, I have been told by region to send all early arrivals away so there. That's what we call Customer Service, never get that rude approach at a hotel even if the roam is not made up, Basil Faulty would do better. The wardens even keep the handbook and a list of 1pm sites ready to blast members with, not sure what the point is Of course any need for a 1pm arrival is caused by the Wardens, the approach road is adopted standard and the site area for arrivals is long, but not for these Wardens, they make a meal out of booking in, when or if there was a rush, which we did not see in a full week, then all they need to do is retain the membership card, let members pitch and walk back to book in. Such a pity that these outdated, unhelpful Wardens still exist despite the clubs new "we can say yes approach". These Wardens need to be taken at their word and retired fast. We have many good Wardens these at Knaresborough spoilt ours and others holidays. As they say "were out" never want to use a site where this lot has been sent. Last point, have your membership card handy as they even want to inspect to ensure its signed, again a delay and what's so important about the signature now we are all electronic.

Best of yorkshire

Great site, 30 minutes walk (or take the bus)into Knaresborough town centre with its stunning river views, ancient castle and busy Wednesday market. There is a 9 mile  bike ride from the site that will suit all abilities,  also buses to Harrogate and Ripon. Only used the bistro for drinks but the food looked plentiful. The noise from farm machinery is what you get when you stay in rural locations, surely a minor irritation worth putting up with for a great location. Returning in November and this will be a regular site for us.

Loveley Site

Managed to get last pitch on the Friday night as we were due in Harrogate on Saturday. Very friendly site from both staff and other families. Shower block clean. Loved the bar/bistro on site and excellent for walking the dogs. Will definitely use it again.

A local gem

I live about 40 miles from site but have not previously used it.  I will definitely return .... soon.  It is well located for both Knaresborough & Harrogate and not having been to Knaresborough for many years I had forgotten how beautiful it is.  The site is a short way up a lane off an A class road but I heard little traffic noise, none of the farm noise referred to in another review.  There were few children on-site and overall it was very quiet.  We used the Bistro and found it served 'homely' food - I had beef pie, very nice, nothing exotic!  The Guy Fawkes pub is walkable in about 10min and had an interesting menu and good choice of beers.  We had an excellent short stay.

Excellent stay

We arrived for two weeks in early August and had a wonderful stay. The camp staff were polite and extremely helpful, especially since I'd forgotten my hammer. There was only a slight noise from the main road, which was not a problem, and every now and then some from the farm at the back of the camp but it wasn't intrusive. This was the only camp we've been to that had a restaurant attached and we made use of it twice - it saved cooking and was handy when it poured down when we were due to eat out. The other members enjoyed it and I met several who came here regularly. It was perfect for dogs and children if you had them. We would definately stay here again.

Great site but ...

Had a four night stay in mid September. Arrived a little before the official 13.00 opening time to face a line of motor homes, caravans and cars backed up and on to the main road which was only 400 yards away. We thought that it was getting dangerous when a car and van could not get around the corner off the main road and it was annoying local residents who were trying to get to their homes. People were complaining that they had been to reception and been told there was no access until 13.00 which I feel is fair if it says so in the hand book and when you book the site. However, many if not most sites tell you to arrive after 12.00. I can not understand the discrepancy for some sites to be out of line with the majority. I know some have particular circumstances to deal with but I can not see the problem here. As the departure time is 12.00 we were sitting looking at rows of empty pitches. The wardens were obviously very stressed as people were complaining about the situation and it must be one they encounter on a regular basis. I would not say the wardens were rude but yes abrupt. An unnecessary situation which should be examined. We have had better starts to our holidays.
