Lovely stay

A lovely site with plenty of trees and ducks. Well maintained and toilet block spotless. Would definitely go again. 5 min drive (if that) from Leyburn.

wonderful for wildlife

Ducks to visit you in the morning. Moorhens, coots, rabbit and a peacock. Helpful friendly staff. Convenient location. Pity about the Ministry of Defence hooligans playing wargames overhead at taxpayers expense.

Delightfully quirky

A beautiful sight. A variety of pitches to suit everyone. Friendly, helpful and efficient wardens. Ducks were very amusing . The inn at Spennithorne is well worth a visit.

Quirky and different

We love this site, because its built in an old quarry the pitches are all at different levels across the site so you end up with secluded little spaces rather than one big field. For instance, if you had a group of 4 tents then there would be an area just for you so you wont be upsetting your neighbors who will be on a different level secluded by trees. The ducks are a major feature as-well, waddling around the site with their chicks before the resident peacock comes along and scares them off. There is a pub near by but they don't serve meals. beers good though. there are plenty of take aways and eating options in the village just a short drive or 30 mins walk away. The access in is tight but there are pull ins if you meet anyone coming.

Low Wensleydale

This is a lovely site, calm and peaceful with some pitches in the open and others in charming nooks. The ducks and rabbits added a lovely touch. We had a nice welcome from the wardens, who were always pleasant and helpful. The facilities were clean and in good working order. Leyburn is just a 15/20 minute walk away, and there is a great traditional pub only 300m from the site.  We really enjoyed our stay.

Lower Wensleydale addict

Returning in our motorhome for the second time in two months  (this time for the Leyburn 1940's weekend) we love Lower Wensleydale more than ever. Yes, the entry road is narrow - that's why the departure/arrival times are staggered. And the site is in an old quarry - that's why the pitches occur in different areas on different levels. But it has a wonderful feeling of calmness. Wake up to ducks and rabbits around the pitch, with the resident peacock strolling past. Take a walk to Leyburn to step back in time and take afternoon tea at one of the many cafés. Country walks abound - do check out the Harmby waterfall just 300 metres from the site. But our main accolade goes to the wardens and assistant wardens of the site. What delightful, and helpful people. They turned an enjoyable visit into a perfect one. Full marks to them, and to Lower Wensleydale site. We will definitely be back!

Overall, a good site

This was our first time at this site and we booked specifically for the 1940s weekend. Well placed for Leyburn and Yorkshire Dales. As per other comments, the approach is narrow so difficult if you meet another vehicle. Overall, a nice quiet site, we preferred the top level as we found it nice and open and more level pitches. Facilities a little dated but very clean. Site staff extremely helpful and pleasant. Only fly in the ointment were the minority of inconsiderate dog owners. One let a large dog leave a nice morning "present" next to the caravan next door to us - how bad is that! There should be a limit on the length of lead and any extendable leads should have to be locked to a normal lead length on site as some owners let their dogs run onto other pitches whilst walking past. We are not dog haters, quite the opposite as we used to have one, it's the minority of inconsiderate dog owners that are the problem.

Boot Camp

This has got to be the club site we have stayed on . It is not a very pretty site and the Toilet Block could do with updating. The staff are total Jobsworths and seem to delight in being as petty as possible A liitle comonsense would not go astray. By coincience we heard of someone there at the same time who thought exactly the same as us Rules are rules but these wardens are pathetic would not stop again
