Annoying electrics

We thought we had a faulty fridge because it kept beeping during the day, evening and occasionally at night. We came to the conclusion eventually that the fridge was reacting to low voltage on site. Other campers had the same problem. The site staff should tell you about this problem on arrival. I wouldn’t return to this site because the constant beeping is very annoying.

Enjoyable stay at Lower Wensleydale

My husband and I stayed on this lovely peaceful site from 9th -14th of May, we should have been here last year but obviously due to restrictions that didn’t happen. All I can say is it wasn’t long enough, we have never stayed on such a peaceful site even with the resident peacock, Gerald. The wardens were so friendly, obliging and as far as complaints about electricity go we don’t have any. At the end of the day you are staying amongst beautiful countryside with great walks and fresh air and you can’t expect to have all of homes amenities. We will return. Thank you

Electricity in need of URGENT MAJOR upgrade - do not expect Club Standards

There are in my view two major issues the Club must address and which Members must be aware of: 1. ELECRICITY - upon arrival (After you have PAID!) you will receive a Welcome Leaflet which states in BOLD " The power supply to the site may suffer from low voltage at peak times or overloads. After 8pm tripped electrics are not classed as an emergency. Please revert to Gas or 12 volts and come to the office in the morning" In fact we arrived at 12.30 and our motorhome electrics played up from arrival - every time we switched on our low voltage kettle the fridge would cut out. The microwave did not operate properly as well. I spoke to other members who experienced similar issues. The wardens are aware of the issue but downplayed it, citing a lack of investment from the site owner. We cut our stay short and left after only one night. On arrival at Hawes Club site our electrics operated normally. 2. The entrance to the site is down a steep narrow and blind bend to the reception. This in our opinion needs a simple traffic light control (Like Bunree) to avoid a MAJOR incident. Of course you must leave early to avoid arrivals but this does not prevent cars from leaving the site in the afternoon and coming head on with arrivals - very very dangerous.

Beautiful, quiet site in stunning location

I stayed at this lovely, quiet site with my two children. The location is beautiful, with a short walk from the site to a lovely waterfall, plus plenty of bike rides and walks nearby. The wardens were very welcoming and extremely helpful. When I had difficulties with my electrics they were prompt to assist, offered advice and the contact details of someone who would come to the site to look at the van if needed. The facilities had appropriate measures in place and were clean throughout our stay. The only downside for us as a family was the lack of play areas for the children. I was aware there was no play facilities (such as a park) on site but had expected a bit of grass, or something similar, where we could play ball games/throw a frisby/etc, however there was nothing like this. I feel this could have been clearer in the information. On our walk to Leyburn we, thankfully, found one of the most beautiful play parks with stunning views though! All in all a lovely break.

Electricity Issues?

Having just read some of the negative comments regarding the electricity supply, being a seasonal pitch holder I can say we have had no issues with the supply during our many weeks on site over the last couple of years......yes we have had the fridge bleeping on rare occasions but this coincides with extremely busy periods or when we have left the heating on 2kW and tried to use the microwave 😢.....in the UK the allowable voltage range is 216 to 253 Vac......on site the usual 16A supply is easily exceeded with heating, microwave, and other portable appliances which have become popular. The site is fantastic and very peaceful, the managers are very friendly and maintain the site to the highest of standards 👍

Electricity in need of urgent upgrade

The site is in a lovely location and very convenient for walking into Leyburn. Some excellent walks on the door step. The site have a lovely small enclosed dog exercise area and the pitches are quite quirky. It is advisable to ring the site beforehand if you have a long or extra wide outfit as some pitches will not be suitable. The wardens were excellent and very helpful. However, he is the real problem, the electricity on the site needs an urgent upgrade. I have stayed on this site many times before and never experienced a problem. However, during the day and night the only thing that could run on electricity was the battery charger and fridge. Anything else would trip the supply so I had to run everything else on gas. While you might expect this on a cold night, I find it difficult to accept during the day. You just need to look at the electricity hook ups to realise that they are really old now and require an upgrade. I do hope the Club sort this matter out because the site is really nice.

Disappointing

This was our first visit, we were looking forward to our 9 night break away. First impressions were very good. The wardens were friendly and helpful. We struggled to find a suitable pitch as they’re quite small for our caravan, and all the decent ones were seasonal. On reading the literature given from the warden I was quite surprised to read they had problems with the electric after 8pm, if I had read this before booking I wouldn’t have booked especially with it being so cold. unfortunately ours started tripping out and causing problems at 5.pm 🥺 on the third day I’d had enough!! We went to see the staff and explained we wanted to leave which wasn’t a problem. They were very understanding. I was shocked when they told me about other campers leaving their heating on in an awning all day and night even when they went out!!! This is unacceptable and selfish. I will be getting in touch with the club to complain about the site being so dated. It’s such a shame because this all reflects on the wardens and it’s out of their hands.

Response from the Club

Thank you for your review. The site staff have been in touch as they would like to clear up any confusion and reassure members that while occasionally the voltage on site may dip due to cold weather or overuse, electricity does not cut off after 8pm.

Wardens really made it work

Lovely quirky site which we have been to before, we were a little concerned with all the covid paranoia about, especially as some wardens were being compared to the camp guards rather than wardens (perhaps unfairly, well I hope...) We need not have worried the wardens were friendly and in no way over zealous, totally appropriate which made what could have been tense work well. There is plenty to see and do around and about though with pre-booking it's best to do your research ahead. The facilities are a little tired and the walk along the road to Leyburn unpleasant given all the traffic. Overall though a different and characterful site in a great location.

Lower Wensleydale

Lovely secluded & peaceful site, not too far from Leyburn, with the added attraction of the Wensleydale Railway running alongside the site. Facilities are a little dated, but acceptable and priced accordingly. We visited late September/early October and the weather was mostly kind, but will be back next Summer when it will hopefully be a tad warmer.
