A Bit of Peace & Quiet.

Just got home after 2 wonderful weeks over the Easter holiday. What a wonderful location. The peace & quiet of the site in general is unbelievable. All we could hear for the first week and a half was bird song & bees. Then a huge motorhome pitched next to us and things changed. But hey ho- some people have no consideration for others do they? Wonderful walks both within walking distance of the site and, if you don't mind a short drive, around the Aysgarth/Hawes area. Leyburn itself is a lovely market town with lots of independent businesses and well worth a browse although we were a little disappointed with the Farmers' Market on the Friday- basically people hawking hats, bathing products & various other tat, although there is a very good fish stall as well as one selling various cheeses. Thoroughly recommend Kim's Bistro (next door to The Wobbly Dog) for lunch- great food, both traditional & Oriental and very reasonably priced. As for the site itself- I have to admit I didn't even notice the "Yellow taped pole" mentioned in other reviews and if you keep in mind that you're towing or driving a vehicle larger than your solo car it really isn't an issue. The access road is narrow but not an insurmountable problem- just drive sensibly and at a reasonable speed (unlike some we saw who believed that 40mph was appropriate). The wardens were very unobtrusive, going about their work without drawing attention to themselves, unlike some sites we've visited, and Yes- the facilities are rather outdated and could seriously benefit from a re-fit but they're perfectly serviceable- although they could do with some plastic stools for the showers as there's nowhere to put your washbag/footwear and with the removal of curtains due to Covid (understandable) you end up with soggy shoes and a washbag full of water. Then there's Gerald- what other site has a resident peacock? He's a real character but takes a great dislike to caravans or motorhomes leaving the site when he is by the entry/exit road and announces his disapproval in no uncertain terms- solo cars he's fine. We've already booked for Easter 2023 and can't wait to return. Thanks very much to the staff for making our stay so enjoyable.
