We have just spent six nights on this site, which is well laid out and cared for. We were in the lower ‘Tavy Field’, the upper end of which has lovely views across to the western edge of Dartmoor. The wardens were very welcoming and helpful. There is a dog walk around the upper grass field, which also has great views. Although the weather was not too kind during our visit, there are plenty of visits and walks available in the local area. In particular, the ‘Granite Trail’ along the old LSWR route from Okehampton to Plymouth is now tarmac from Lydford to Okehampton and thus provides a lovely walking route when other footpaths are impassable. Tavistock is an interesting old market town, which also has well maintained paths beside the River Tavy together with a towpath walk along the old canal, which originally connected the town to the River Tamar at Morwellham Quay.
