Great (in places)...

This site is beautiful to look at. It is well laid out with excellent flower borders and the fishing lake is a wonder. The pitches overlooking the lake (which we were lucky enough to get into) have a fantastic view. However, what they don't tell you is that the A1 is only about 75/80 yards away and the noise is constant. We were lucky enough to be there during the recent good weather but couldn't keep the windows open at night for the noise as the wind was in the right/wrong direction and brought it straight in. The toilets at the top of the site are spotlessly clean but a bit on the small side. Only 2 showers, no privacy cubicles and no hairdryer in the gents. They could get a bit congested during summer months. No kids play area as such and with such a deep lake close by kids will have to be closely monitored. Dog walking is very good. Out of the site, along a lane and into open fields or you can stand and watch the trains go by on the main East Coast line (about 10 every hour or so) as it's only about 400 yards from the site. No local shop or pub so make sure you have everything you need when you get there, although right next door is a great little micro-brewery which does terrific ales. With it's proximity to the A1, the site is ideally situated for those travelling North or South to further areas for a one or two night rest break. That's what we'll be using it for in the future.
