Unpleasant confrontation with relief warden

I should probably preface this review by stating that the permanent site wardens, Sam and Zoe, are a really lovely couple and an absolute credit to the CMC. They were very excited to meet our 13 week old Border Collie and were keen to introduce him to their dog Mouse. Sadly (for us), halfway through our stay, Sam and Zoe embarked on a well-deserved break. They were replaced by temporary relief wardens who were parked up on the pitch immediately adjacent to ours. Literally within minutes of them assuming control, one of the relief wardens was banging on my van door to bring to my attention a stain on the grassy strip between our pitches, which he said indicated that my dog was using the area as a toilet. I explained that our dog was a baby, just 13 weeks old, and did not have sufficient bowel control to make it all the way to the dog walk area. However, we were careful to always pick up after our dog. In fact, I am pretty anal about this! He also stated that we were not allowed to place the puppy's pen on the grassy strip. I explained that we had no choice since the puppy had started swallowing the gravel on our pitch and I did not want a large vet’s bill. He insisted that things had to change, so they did – we immediately curtailed our holiday at CMC Minehead and relocated to a nearby “Friendly Club” site. In all our years of caravanning and motor-homing we have never felt so uncomfortable and been made to feel so unwelcome before. To explain our overall rating, Sam and Zoe get full marks. The relief warden gets null points on account of his lack of people skills and puppy love.

Hi, If I was considering this site your "review" would be of no use to me as it is solely about your interaction with the staff on site and has no information about the site itself.

While there may be people who agree with your take on the wardens actions there will be others who may feel that the correct action was taken, indeed it is often commented that staff should 'enforce' the rules.

I have had, what I felt were, less than pleasant experiences on club sites in the past and these were raised with the staff at the time and direct with EG and, whilst its understanable that you may wish to get it off your chest, I am not sure that the review section is the best place for you to raise this.

Completely agree. The review is completely one sided and does not facilitate a right of reply. There’s alway two sides to a story.

There’s a possibility you stayed on a pitch just up from the static caravan, so are by no means a significant distance from the dog walk. As a dog owner, gauging roughly when your dog would be ready for going is part and parcel of being a responsible dog owner, along with the toilet training regime of staying on sites. I fully agree with the relief wardens raising their observations with you and if I’d have been the next user of a pitch you’d frequented, I’d be annoyed at smelling urine whilst trying to enjoy sitting out on a sunny day, let alone the obvious scorch marks left on the grass which will take some time to repair. Well done the relief wardens 👍

Totally agree with last comment continuous dog fouling on an area where children could play is both inconsiderate and a health hazard, and as a dog owner  the responsibility lies with this member to stick with the rules, wardens only enforce the rules members dictate as well as common decency and site etiquette. Well done to this particular warden for doing his job to maintain standards and safety.
