One we'll come back to

We came for a few early season days away, and to check the van still worked OK before bigger trips further afield, and we'll be back. It's in a lovely area, with good NT places, easy reach of Hereford - the Mappa Mundi is indeed worth spending time with - and excellent peaceful countryside. We too heard that tawny owl with great pleasure! We'd have found more to occupy a longer stay. Weobley provided a good meal out (Jules) and a pleasant place to explore, for one. The snow still made waves of frozen sea-breakers looming over some roadside hedges, so lots of meltwater, and wet ground everywhere, but the site was fine. The wardens wisely asked us to stick to hard standing - no problem with that! We had a great view over the Brecon Beacons, with snow still on them. The site's also sheltered from the North, and in the cold wind that was welcome. Excellent maintenance on the facilities by very friendly and helpful wardens, to whom our thanks. It may not be the most modern, but it's perfectly adequate and user-friendly as it is, we liked it. I can see that there's not a lot on-site for children, and in high season it might feel a little crowded, being so long & thin, but with only a handful of early season persons of mature age that wasn't a problem! There is an onsite WiFi hotspot area near the wardens' building. We found some occasional O2 signal and no EE, but life without intravenous phone is no bad thing :-) Our only regret was my wife's not having her camera to hand when there was a perfect sunset through the bridge arch over the track of the railway at the end of the site. All in all, it's firmly on our list of good places to return.
