Good for families

How one event can ruin the weekend when handled in the wrong way .

Stayed at the site to enable us to visit the excellent Moreton in Marsh show on Saturday 3rd September . Our stay was for 3 nights . We stayed at the same time last year to visit the show . We had an excellent weekend and spent a day at Bourton on the Water . On arrival it was frustrating finding a pitch away from the road noise and also several areas which were cul de sacs . After an excellent weekend and torrential rain the night before we packed up the caravan and were ready to hitch up at 12 o clock . Packing up had taken longer than expected after the heavy rain . We then decide best to use the toilet and wash our hands etc before hitching up . Only the EHU connection was to be disconnected . On return the warden approached us and asked if we were leaving , I told him yes and we had just been to the toilet . He told us it was 12.10 pm and the rules were that we should be gone by 12 . He then said 12 means 12 not 10 past or 20 past 12 . He walked away saying something like “you will know next time 12 means 12 . I then went into rush and panic mode making several mistakes honking up that could have proved dangerous . As we left the site at about 12.35 I stopped and asked the warden his name , he told me his name and I replied that he had ruined our weekend by his attitude . He told me he was sorry I felt that way , I told him I wouldn’t be visiting the site again . I know rules are rules but attitude is important and at my age I resent being spoken to in the manner of a teacher ,policeman or prison warden . Older caravaners take more time and need to take more care .Safety and security are the main concern not trying to exercise authority . Then after driving a few miles in a frustrated and upset state I had a contact from the Swift tracker control because I hadn’t switched off my tracker . I hadn’t followed my checklist for safety and security before driving away . I’ve got over it now but the site were also turning away caravaners who arrived before 1pm . So beware if you visit the site that they are very strict on arrival and departure times . Other wardens were friendly and welcoming on our arrival and we also had a nice chat with 2 visiting wardens from Portsmouth . Then I suppose the whole country is under stress at the moment .

I take it that as you basically. knew you would not be off by 1200 why did you not speak to the site staff beforehand?? Instead of just taking it for granted you would not be ready by the departure time?how many others had not also left by 1200?

Surely a bit of common sense would see that the van was packed up for leaving? A simple word of “is everything ok as with it being 12 o’clock departure’s I was just checking if you were having a problem “ or something along those lines. There are ways of speaking and dealing with people without causing offence and upset! Like the gent said, he was put into stress mode and upset for something that he was already doing. On occasion, things just don’t go to plan and that’s life 🤷‍♀️

Well we were all ready to leave at 12 just needed to hitch up , then decided safer to leave unhitched while we went to the facilities . Just a matter of a few minutes .

Then everything went wrong after the warden spoke to us .

Looking to go here to stay but very grateful being pre warned by this helpful review.       I would not want my disabled husband to ever be subjected to someone speaking to him in that manner.
Appalling behaviour, these people were obviously on the way to leaving and it does take older people longer sometimes, they may have health issues ,courtesy and politeness cost nothing.
What is 30 minutes if you as a warden, have helped that person leave in a safe state of mind, especially when they were very aware and trying to keep to the time?
Thoughtless and a really big No from me whilst a totally unsuitable  member of staff is allowed to speak to paying customers in this way
It can be dangerous, ill manners and condescending rudeness do have a lasting effect on those with fragile mental and physical health conditions.Thank you for the warning.

The warden was not at fault here, well done to him on enforcing  the rules that they were obviously aware of.

I agree rules are rules and there for the greater good   However attitude is also important
Anyway I have the choice where to go and I seldom complain I just take my custom elsewhere
I thought other members should be aware that Moreton in the Marsh site are very strict concerning arrival and departure times
Needless to say if we visit the excellent Moreton show next year it will be just for the day
Meanwhile I am sure there are many other caravan sites that will welcome my custom and appreciate it

If people don't want a telling off, or don't want to be spoken to in that manner then it's very simple, don't break the rules or if you are going to be late off then speak to the wardens and say you're sorry with your reasons, don't just assume it will be fine to stay past 12.

“If people don't want a telling off, or don't want to be spoken to in….”

Well that just about sums it up !

School children get told off not paying customers !

It was obviously very naughty of my partner to decide she needed to go to the toilet at 11.55 am when we were about to hitch up !

Causing us to be a few minutes late leaving !
Perhaps she should have put her hand up and asked the wardens permission to leave the class !

It was all about attitude !

In the many years we have been members and have met and still meet site staff (now retired even) one thing that they nearly all say is if you give an inch then the next place they visit they Will expect even more
