Rules, Rules, Rules !

October 2016 - At the end of a long drive myself and a fellow motorvanner arrived at North Ledaig CC Site. On arrival it was apparent that this is a franchised site and slightly different from 'normal' CC setups. The reception staff were lovely and gave us a map and allowed us both to drive around the rather large site to find our perfect pitch. The site is split into 4 large areas, one of which is exclusively for CC members. All pitches face the sea loch and mountains beyond and are in very good order, levelling blocks are generally required though. Water and waste water points are in abundance, as are bins. Toilet emptying is at the main toilet areas which in some cases is too far to carry a cassette. I noticed many people driving cars with their cassettes to empty them, not ideal on such a large site. Having found our pitches, my wife stayed with the dogs whilst we went to book in. Booking-in was straightforward and I saw that the shop was quite well stocked with basics, just in case you run short of supplies. Booking-in complete, we were told to wait for the warden to take us to our pitch, which is normally allocated by staff. After waiting a while for the warden and as I knew where my pitch was I left our friends to wait and headed down there to where my wife was waiting (on a pretty cool October day) and waited for the warden and my co-vanner to arrive. And that, I'm afraid to say, is where it all went wrong..... The 'warden' arrived in his warden car, gesticulating wildly through the windscreen at me. I wasn't on the pitch yet and was rather taken aback at this action, I presumed a lighthearted comment was to follow...! Instead, this rather angry man chose to vent his spleen at me for transgressing a serious Rule that could get him into serious trouble, namely not waiting to be escorted to the pitch (I had just spent 20 minutes driving around unescorted so Health & Safety or Site Security was clearly not the issue) Unwilling to accept that returning to collect my now cold wife was a valid excuse (as he would have left his wife in the cold if rules dictated it! (his words!!)) I asked for an explanation of why this rule exists, but no explanation was forthcoming. I was then given more Rules to comply with regarding parking. I was curious about some elements and asked why that was a rule - “It's the RULES”, I was told! Now, Society needs rules, Fooltball matches need rules and campsites need rules, I get that – Should the latter be enforced or encouraged? Having held a position of genuine authority for most of my life, I know that enforcement is a last resort, and enforcement whilst getting angry and upsetting paying guests leads to shirty reviews, bad-mouthing and claims for compensation! Without a doubt, this man's attitude and lack of compassion, humour or customer care led to a very disgruntled and upset customer, and a shirty review! Whilst on the subject of rules, can I just point out that the Road Traffic Act has a rule about car
