Good for families

Overpriced, Unkempt, Unfriendly, Expensive

We have just spent a week here with friends who use this site as it’s just round the corner from family. To say we are all disappointed is an understatement. The site continues (after many years) to overcharge for what is basically a no facilities unkempt car park. I’ve heard all the excuses as to why the ablution block isn’t open (we’ve been more than once) but have yet to hear why the pricing for this site doesn’t reflect the total lack of facilities, care and upkeep. In reality, the club should be charging no more than £6 per night for the site. You could even do away with full time wardens as they do very little for their wages. Bins were not emptied daily, loo drop and water areas were not cleaned daily and we didn’t see the warden on site for 5 out of the 6 days we were on site. The gates on the dog walk area are non-existent and the whole area is a complete mess. Just why are we being charged such extortionate prices for this site? Upon our arrival we were told off, yes told off, at our age, for being early to check in. Now when I say early I’m talking about 50 minutes early. The office was open but I was told by both male and female wardens that it should in fact be closed but they had been too busy chatting!! Now if the office had been closed upon our arrival we would of happily waited for it to open. The only reason we went into the office is because it was open with people inside!! We don’t appreciate being scolded like naughty children. We are all aware, timings can vary wildly in this country due to the state of our roads and the weight of traffic. The fact we arrived 50 minutes early was due entirely to luck, having had good roads on that day. So to say the start of our holiday was blemished by a bitter taste in the mouth is an understatement. Please rethink your training of your wardens to give people a smile and warm welcome, it makes all the difference. Please also don’t forget to explain to your membership why the charges for this site remain unacceptably high when the site is going to rack and ruin.

What didn’t you understand about "No arrivals before....."? To turn up almost an hour early is pushing your luck. "Timings can vary wildly..." - not by that much and, if they do, the sensible thing is to park up somewhere and wait rather than expect special treatment. Alternatively, telephone ahead and ask if an early arrival is acceptable.

I’m puzzled that you keep using this site when you believe it to be so terrible. Why not go elsewhere? The pricing structure looks about the same as a CL and your estimate of £6 p/n is laughable.

Have you reported your findings to the club or simply chosen to rant in a review? You need to do the former if you have a problem.

Site details say
Please note: this site does not have a toilet block.

You knew the price.

'We arrived 50 minutes early' were you well mannered enough to phone ahead and ask if it was OK to be nearly an hour early?

The site is priced in line with CC other non-facility sites

I notice two other slightly negative reviews about 'no toilet block' but that is clear when booking and is, to me a plus rather than minus as I like such sites and have stayed here.

As for complaining about the Wardens the only similar review is from somebody trying to book in at 9am! I wonder if they also were too ill mannered to phone ahead?

DH, have you E-mailed the club with your concerns ? or have you just had a rant on CT ????

Posted on 14/04/2018 13:52

Would you complain Husky that you had been 'told off' for being an hour early, that the site (as advertised) had no facility block and that it was too dear given the price is clear at booking? I wouldn't as I would feel a right plonker!

ET I suspect that it may have been the warden's attitude rather than the words used.

We will not know whether the warden and wife were both offensive or if the reviewer was too easily offended due to a feeling of entitlement and simply did not like being told he was too early. I was on an occasion told that I was too early by the passing warden on the way to get his brew when I pulled out out side Poolbrook site office 7 mins early. I certainly was not offended.

We have no idea also what the OP's attitude towards the wardens was on arrival 50 minutes early. But if it was anything like the tone of the opening rant I think, if I were a warden, I'd likely be fairly terse as well! frown
