Magnificent Views

Although I already live in NE across the Tyne in South Shields, it is always a pleasure to do a long weekend at Old Hartley CC site. All pitches are none awning but that's no problem for myself. The vast majority of the pitches are sloping but the site information states this so I was prepared with blocks to get caravan level. Once set up and kettle boiling it's time to sit down and relax and soak in the magnificent views that are all around, especially St Mary's Island and Lighthouse. On our second day we were fortunate that tide was low around mid afternoon so we visited the lighthouse and also the Seal Watch hutch at back where volunteers loaned Binoculars to observe the Seals basking in the sun. Eating out is very good with many good pubs within a mile at most, however the one right next to the CC site entrance The Delaval Hall is very good and we used this on our first and last nights to save time. Really enjoyed the local ale but note this pub does not take credit or other plastic cards just cash! No matter there is an ATM outside a reasonably stocked Co-op store 2 mins drive from site entrance. Site is easy to get to in fact I, having been to Old Hartley several times before, find it better to use the road that takes you there from Shiremoor as you then avoid towing through Whitley Bay town. This road leads directly to the A19 junction. Site facilities are excellent as are wardens. A very pleasant stay!
