Won’t be going back

This was the most unfriendly family experience I have ever been on. The male warden is confrontational, very rude Told us we were to early and suggested to come back later, we turned our car and caravan around in quiet a tight spot and then he proceeded in shouting at us for speeding, he then told us that he had the right to remove us from the site immediately, We have been coming to this site for many years and never ever been treated like this before it was appalling, We came home early as we didn’t feel welcome at all and thanks to the warden we will never ever go back

Good visit as usual but a few gripes this time

We have been visiting Pembrey for decades and love the site and the park. We’ve taken our children and now our grandchildren. They love it. The biking through the woods and on the beach is great and there are no crowds. There’s a good bike route along the coast to Burry Port which is well worth a visit. In the summer there are lots of children on site and they all make friends and have a great time. Several sites now have food outlets on various nights and the Pizza van on Friday and Saturday here was very good – we recommend. Unfortunately there are some gripes this time. Dogs! Maybe there are lots of new members who don’t know the rules or just don’t care but dogs are supposed to be under control and taken off site for walks and toilet, not led to the nearest bit of grass and allowed to mess. Clearing it up is not the point; children play here and it’s unacceptable. Refuse. As we’ve read in reviews, you now have to take all your rubbish to the front gate area of the site, where you can segregate it for recycling. The bins are large with heavy lids making it difficult for some people to lift a lid and put rubbish in at the same time. When I asked a warden what the rationale was for changing the system, I was told it was to do with there being a lot of rubbish – 150 bags was mentioned – hypodermic needles - the bags are heavy - “health and safety”, etc. It sounded to me as though the wardens just didn’t want to do it anymore. It was inconvenient as rather than take bits and pieces frequently to the local bins, you tend to let it mount up to make the journey worthwhile, so rubbish is hanging around for maybe several days. Some people even needed to take the car to dispose of it. Hardly progress and it just isn’t rational as now all the rubbish has to be hand-carried (by customers) to the front gate instead of being towed in bulk bins by small tractor. The smaller toilet block was still permanently closed so facilities are not “fully open”; don’t know why as the site was full. That said, we will of course visit again as the location is great but the Club needs to get these things sorted.

Lovely location of site & staff nice. Only complaint constantly is cleaning time of showers in the morning, holidaying with 2 teenagers it is a constant issue! Would definitely visit again.

disappointing reception on arriving before 1.00 pm

With Covid restrictions lifted we incorrectly assumed that the arrival time had reverted to 12.00 noon. We were instructed to turn our twin axle caravan around and proceed back out of the site with extreme difficulty due to the inadequate turning space, even though there would have been ample room had the warden deigned to move a few traffic cones which was sealing off a parking area. Not being able to check in until 1.00 pm is very inconvenient for hungry children, many of whom have sat in the back of a car for a few hours travelling to the site. Only the main toilet block was open even though the Welsh Government announcement on 6 August stated that All internal shared facility areas, including toilet and shower blocks. etc would be open. The site was full, which would indicate that the facilities provided were inadequate. Very shocked to see many dogs off leads and dogs being allowed to defecate anywhere on the site and also on grassed areas where young children play hide-and-seek etc. We have been taking children to Pembrey regularly for six years and am saddened to have to make these negative comments.

My experience

This is a fabulous site - ideally located for cycling, walking, beach, castles and driving to stunning places such as Saundersfoot, Mumbles and Tenby. I read earlier reviews which were not so great, though I thought this site is as good as any other site of similar location. Yes, it attracts families so children playing can create some noise. Some families seemed to stay on site for large parts of the day. I was a little worried by the number of children cycling around the place and even some adults flying by on electric scooters at some speed and at night. Luckily we found a pitch on a quieter section of the site which was mainly occupied by adults. It's the grassed areas that seem to attract families. I also read another review who said that several vans/MH were arriving and trying to reserve pitches before they had fully checked in. I caught sight of such activity AND even saw a caravan being driven right across several pitches to take a short cut to a vacant pitch they had spotted...the route they took was clearly not correct and would contravene driving 'rules' and compromise safety. Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was peaceful and pleasant on our pitch and we watched others with some amusement at times! I'm sure we will return. Oh, and having to take your rubbish to the bins at the front of the site is not a problem at all. Those who winge about this are probably those who would benefit from some exercise! It's also probably better to have rubbish away from the pitches....more sites should do this. Thank you to all the wardens! Keep up the good work. From a grateful couple.

Disappointed

This was our first stay at this site.good location, facilities were spotless. However, although it’s a rural location on a country park, there is often a continuous noise from a nearby racing circuit which really spoiled the tranquility of the site during the day. Half way through the week, all of the bins at the service points were removed for reasons unknown, meaning you had to do a long walk to the site entrance to dispose of your rubbish. Although the facilities were clean, shutting them for cleaning between 10.30-12.30 was a poor choice of times.why couldn’t they be closed in the afternoon at anytime?,and I didn’t appreciate being barked at by one of the wardens that the facility was closing for cleaning at 10.25. Whilst the site had rules,it seems the wardens were a bit haphazard of how and when these were implemented.there is no dedicated dog walk on site,so you have to walk off site to allow for dog exercise/toilet,one morning my wife was chastised abruptly by one warden for the dog doing its business, although we always clean up after our pets.we noticed other campers dogs doing the same, but not being challenged.although there is a 10 pm traffic curfew,on a number of occasions vehicles were driving around the site after 11 pm,and although there was a Covid ‘no visitor’ rule, the motorhome next to us had visitors staying.? We found a couple of the wardens ‘sergeant’ like and this took the ambience of the site away. Unfortunately,if you have a less than perfect holiday you tend not to go back or recommend a site which I would apply here. Shame.

First time disappointed

We've visited this site for over 20 years and always loved it but this year is the first year of disappointment. The bins have all been taken off site and are all now placed at the entrance of the site meaning you have to carry your rubbish to the entrance, all the money they charge to stay and you have to walk almost out of the site to dispose of rubbish. The shower block has always had a spare lock to use when cleaning is in progress for the main block but this year the spare blocks have been shut down meaning from 11am until 12pm daily you have nowhere to toilet or shower! Fist time for us to ever be disappointed with this site!

Comment from the Club

We just wanted to let you know why these changes have been made to clear up any confusion. The new waste management process has been implemented due to health and safety issues and to assist with the vast volume of rubbish on site. The use of alternative toilets during cleaning is simply down to the site staff all doing their utmost to adhere to the Welsh COVID regulations and guidelines.Unfortunately, they have experienced continued misuse of the facilities including cutting zip tied doors of the closed toilet and shower cubicles. We hope this helps explain the changes and would like to assure you the team at Pembrey Country Park work incredibly hard to ensure that everyone stays with them has the best possible time during their stay.

Pembrey - What A Fantastic Place To Stay

Fantastic site and fantastic staff. Except for the Covid break have been visiting for 7 years. Interesting to sit outside the ‘van on a Friday/Saturday lunchtime and see some arrivals walk thru’ the barrier with chairs and steps to reserve pitches for themselves and/or others for their weekend stay. Is this fair when there is a queue? Also driving a camper onto an already pitch in use pitch when the camper had gone out for the day and kicking over the ‘camper using this pitch’ sign. I guess some people are just ignorant. Lovely and peaceful during the week but some weekends can see a change. Based on continuous drinking and rise in noise level after 9 hours and their dogs constantly barking. However, hats off to the Wardens who curtailed those problems close to midnight. Neither were the Wardens aware of some people ‘reserving’ pitches rather than taking their turn and customers ignoring the protocol of taking over a pitch already in use. Having said all that the site and staff are quite fantastic and the Baker who calls sells cakes to die for. Will I be back next year? Of course I will as I am not going to let a minority of people spoi my stay at a stunning location.

Beautiful location

Fabulous site adjacent to Pembrey country park and beach. The site itself is very well run with friendly, helpful staff. The entrance as you arrive is one of the best we have come across for a feeling of spaciousness and with beautiful flowers and hanging baskets. You can walk directly from the site into the Country park and then on to the eight mile long sandy beach. A real haven for dog walkers, cyclists and beach lovers.

Well run and very clean

We stayed here for a total of 12 nights. Mix of grass and hardstanding pitches. Approach and direction were simple to follow and booking in was easy. Then to find a pitch you like - interesting to watch people swapping pitches and using various ways of *reserving* favoured pitches. We got lucky with our pitch on the outskirts as someone vacated just as we arrived at 3.00. There was some daytime building noise from a property close by but at night it was very quiet. The staff here seem to be on the go constantly keeping the site clean and tidy. Superb access to the neighbouring Country Park which has lots to offer and a lot of visitors but is so vast we rarely met anyone else while walking through it. Beach access nearby fantastic and rarely had anyone else on it. As others have mentioned, the wet/ humid conditions of the park nextdoor are perfect for monster size mosquitoes and horseflies, despite being liberal with the citronella we did get bitten a fair bit. A nice site and seemingly quite popular with local people too. We didn't use the facilities so cannot comment, but did have to request a replacement hose for a badly fitting/leaking service point which was changed the same day.
