a good break

We stayed on a serviced pitch at this site for 3 nights, including the weekend of the recent gales - 28th/29th March. It's very easy to find, clean, organised and while the site itself is fairly small, the pitches don't feel at all cramped. We didn't hear any motorway noise as with a couple of previous reviews but this was probably because of the awful noise from the storms which were really, really frightening. Although the approach to the site is through an industrial area, the site is situated close to the country park, canals and rivers - so there are plenty of country walks/cycle rides nearby. It was my husband's birthday so I had booked at table at The Elm Tree in Elmton which is about 20 minutes away but is definitely worth the drive because the food is great and the atmosphere warm and welcoming; a place we heartily recommend (01909 721261). Finally, the wardens; they were all really very friendly, helpful, and happy to stop for a laugh and a chat as they walked around the site. My husband didn't realise he'd left his phone in the shower block until just after the office closed, (yes, daft!) but thankfully somebody had handed it in. The wardens had stuck a poster on the door of the site office and in the shower blocks too, to the effect that a mobile had been found. We caught the off-duty warden and she was so helpful - couldn't have done more for us. She reopened the office and dug the phone out for us without any hesitation. That's the sort of thing you remember about a site and at this place, they serve it up in plenty! Well worth a visit.

Over priced for Easter

Site was quite alright except for close proximity to public footpaths with low fences. Saw general public just step over once or twice! The area was quite depressed, but walks close at hand were a big attraction. The price hike for Easter was ridiculous, people obviously voted with their feet, as when we left the Monday before Easter the site was very under used, were as the week before the full signs were up!

A good site

A good clean well maintained site. In a good location there is some motorway traffic noise but this does not spoil the enjoyment of the site.

Another good weekend

Arrived Friday afternoon after a short journey from home. The facilities are really good and there are plenty of walks and cycling routes. last time we walked to Chesterfield and this time we cycled to Rother Valley Park. There is always plenty to do and we look forward to coming to this site again in the future.

Wonderful Site

We have just returned from a 5 night stay and yet again we thoroughly enjoyed it. There are plenty of walks nearby so very popular with our German Shepard. Every time we go we seem to find different walks. We would also like to thank the wardens for all their help whilst we were on site with a problem that arose. It is handy for the supermarket and within walking distance to a paper shop. All in all a brilliant site for all.

Pools Brook

First time at this site, though its fairly local. We have had a first week shakedown 2 days at Seaton Sluice, 2 days here and 2 days at Skegness Sands. This site exceeded my expectations, spotlessly clean with great facilities. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Cycling round here is wonderful, we will be back.

A tidy Site with plenty to do for the active

This is a nice, neatly presented site with an air of newness still. The toilet blocks were is very clean condition when we visited and were up to the usual high standard of the club. These are Environmentally friendly, being heated partially by Ground Source heating. The site is on reclaimed land of an old colliery and works but all traces of the industrial past are now gone as the area has been revamped into a country park with lakes, and paths all round.

The only criticism I would make is that the exit from the site is badly planned as it involves a sharp right hand turn immediately after the exit barrier. This is not a problem with a solo car, but with the 7.5m caravan hitched up, it was 'interesting'.

Nearby, the old railway line that had served several local pits has now been converted into a multi use off road path that leads South and North. This is accessed from the site directly via another path. To the South, the path becomes part of the Trans Pennine Trail leading to Chesterfield a pleasant 5 mile walk through well signposted lanes and paths. To the North, there is another loop of the Trans Pennine Trail leading to Chesterfield along the side of the Chesterfield Canal(5.5 miles) and is flat the majority of the way. Again this is well signposted.

The wardens we met were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and will certainly be back.
