The Smiths weekend break in April 2015

We wanted a relaxing short family break not too far from home, and decided to try this site as it is perfectly placed for Rutland Water and some really good walks. Our long weekend stay went brilliantly from start to finish. The directions to the site were clear and easy to follow. The wardens were lovely and very helpful. The site was well kept and our pitch really generous. The facilities are spotless, there is safe childrens play area, a games room and a new indoor swimming pool that we really enjoyed. The site is situated only a short walk along a pretty pathway into the village of Greetham which is delightful. This is a great site and one we will definitely come back to. Highly recommended.

Great Days

Just spent a week here,Had a great time the site was well maintained and very peace full with the add bonus of a doggy shower which we fond very useful as our dog got very muddy on the nature walk. Pitches seem a little tight but not to bad and the on site dog walk is good. the Plough is a very friendly village pub which serves great food at reasonable prices they have a small dinning area which dogs are not allowed in but they also serve food in the bar if you what to eat and you have a dog like us. Will definitely be returning to this site as there is a lot of places to visit

February Half Term

Spent 7 nights here Feb 2015.  Easily accessible site, pitches a little on the tight side especially ours at the top end of the serviced pitches which due to the hedge opposite made it awkward to reverse onto pitch.  Had a fully serviced pitch and only had one occasion of electric going off, despite only 10 amp, but that was for a whole section of the park; it was back on again in a very short time.  In truth the 10 amps didn't restrict us at all and had Alde heating on all the time with no problems when we put the kettle on the electric hot plate. Clean and tidy facilities block and kept nice and warm with biomass boiler although didn't use it for showers as we all used the one in the van.  WiFi not fantastic but told when we were leaving that booster was not working, would have been good to know before buying £10 weekly ticket! Slightly featureless site looking out from the van and could do with splitting up the pitches a little better rather than just having them in a line around the edge of the site.  However this does give a large central play area for children.  Good dog walk area and easy walk to village for the pubs, limited in the way of shops though which necessitates a trip to Oakham (5 miles) or beyond.  Good food in The Plough but truly excellent in The Wheatsheaf although slightly more expensive.   Easy access by car to Rutland Water for nice walks and additionally there are some shorter walks taking in part of the Viking Way directly from the site.

Motorhomer

Just spent weekend 3 nights, biggest issue only 10amp, we struggled with just a kettle & heating as very cold, no TV, M/wave. Only 3 showers available, not a problem not many on site. One hairdryer, tube taped but not secure so no hot air out of nozzle! Yes there are bird scarers booming but not too close but the church bells ring on the hour throughout the night, yes I did have a bad night & heard most of them! We were by the dog walk which is very convenient, also by path to village & pubs, easy to get to village.

New Years Eve

Stayed on site for NYE, with a dinner booked at the local Golf club for the event itself. Everything fantastic as usual, but be warned ampage is limited to 10amps so heater and kettle on at same time would trip it. Boiled water in pan and used van heater and when needed portable halogen so all good. Only down side was the fact that the access roads on site had not been gritted after snow fall so vans sliding about, yet access roads to the site had been. Would it have really cost that much more to grit?

Welcome site

We arrived to a friendly welcome on a wet, windy day even though we hadn't booked previously. The site is well laid out with different areas to suit all needs. Spotless facilities, that were lovely and warm. Good dog walking area on site and a further path down to the village. Hedges protected us from the strong winds. Church bell close by was not intrusive, but charming and didn't appear to ring all night. We would've stayed longer but had a nervous dog that was trying to get over a previous nights bird scarer that gave off a loud bang every 10 mins, so the low dull noise from the artillery barracks nearby were too much for him. This would not affect any normal dog I'm sure, he's just a big softy! I would recommend the freshly baked croissants and bread that can be ordered overnight - mmm-lovely!
