excellent site

1st time at this site, and was certainly not disappointed Facilities were excellent, spotlessly clean, and warm. Water for the showers were hot and plentiful We stayed in the Adult field, with only a few vans on site, so was very peaceful and quiet, just what we needed. The wardens were very welcoming and polite, and very knowledgeable We ventured into the village, via the footpath which took only 5 minutes, and had a lovely meal in the Plough public house. The meal was excellent, and can recommend the pub for food, but the drinks were expensive. We will return and thank you for a nice stay.

Great place

Stayed here for two nights. Site facilities were first class. Full service pitches including waste water outlet. Forgot our "cossies" for lovely heated swimming pool. Dog enjoyed the dog walk area. Separate adults only area. Very nice and helpful wardens. Local pub within walking distance. Best of all, is the on site cafe - great food all day plus charming chef lady - highly recommend. Would definitely go back.

Enjoyable!!

Good site in our opinion - fully serviced hook up, saves hassle! Having read some of the reviews prior to our visit, we were unsure on what to expect. All staff were friendly and helpful. Hot water was plentiful Both points contrary to other reviews. Can't comment on whether it is good for families as we stayed on the adult only section - having said that, there is an indoor pool that can be used for a charge - hence the average score for said point Visited The Plough PH in the village for some food and drinks - great hospitality all round. Would we stay again - definitely, yes!!

First Time Caravaners

This was our first family caravan holiday experience. We really liked the fact that all the pitches were serviced pitches making our first experience of caravaning very easy. Our two sons enjoyed the playground and the ride on tractor although would have preferred a playground without sand! The family bathroom was very useful for two young boys after playing in the sand. We didn't use the swimming pool but probably would in the future. Hopefully all the potholes at the entrance will be filled in by then! Very handy for Rutland Water and the A1.

Getting Worse

We have been visiting this site for a number of years and things are just getting worse, when you arrive you will have to face the wicked witch of Rutland with a serious personality problem! then you are faced with the gates, which i am not sure if its to keep us in or out as we know the site well pitching is not a problem, the condition of facilities are in a poor state, stand pipes broken, the waste system has always been an issue smells coming out and into you caravan, you will have to fit a trap in your waste pipe to stop this. The new toilet block has taken an age to build and half the fixtures do not work, and after being told simply put they do not care, the log burner on the adjacent factory site, (the owners of the site) belches black smoke out all day.....not nice. This has all been done on a budget and run as a business not a caring site for holidaymakers......while we were there the last time we had a family emergency which involved us looking after our grandson for an hour, the wicked witch simply refused to let him on site.... rules she said. Well after all these ongoing issues we will not be coming back!!

Mixed feelings

A lot has been said about the site so in summary for us, we stayed in the adult only section (not requested but allocated here, although for us this was fine) however this did put us nearer to the hourly chiming of the local church bell which I did find annoying especially at night(and not mentioned in many reviews), it also meant we were nearer to the rumble of the road noise and noise from the farm which the adult section backed onto, however this shouldn't be a problem if you plan on visiting the many local villages, pubs, restaurants and Hambletons bakery (great cakes.....) Site was clean, well maintained, pitches a good size, wardens were conversant and helpful and the security access card works great as long as everyone closes the gate at the dog walk pathway to the village which we found was open on 3 occasions. the drainage for the waste on the service pitch was higher than the outlet pipe on our Bailey van which posed a problem but not unsolvable. Would we return? probably not but only because of the church bells......... (sorry, thats how it is)

Dosappointing

Clean site with friendly staff. But why were we allocated a pitch with a broken standpipe, in a row of pitches with broken standpipes? We thought that maybe all the other pitches on the site were booked for the weekend, this was not the case so we could have been given a pitch with properly functioning services. The solution given by the warden was to use another water point, all broken and also lying on the floor near to our pitch, or to buy a water pipe for £25 to connect our unit directly to the tap. We didn't think that was worth it for 3 nights. We won't be returning.

Rutland Caravan site

This is our first visit to Rutland Every pitch was a super pitch which is the first time we have encountered this and its brill. The staff here were very polite and a credit to the site indeed, nothing was too much trouble and their local knowledge is second to none. The facilities are clean and warm with underfloor heating in the showers. Overall a very good site which felt very secure; the exit barrier required a card to open.

Excellent Site

Fully endorse all previous comments and would also recommend the eggs for sale in reception, every one was a double yolker !t may seem churlish but the only grumble I could make would be about the last 100 yards of access road, very muddy due to local farmer's tractor.

Great New Yrs break.

This is our first visit to Rutland after recommendations from friends. We went with another couple with a young lad and thoroughly enjoyed a different type of New Yrs celebrations. The site is spotless and the welcome second to none. Ive never known showers so warm and inviting, it was cold out so stood there until like a shrivelled prune. Every pitch was a super pitch which is the first time we have encountered this and its brill. We had our Weimars with us as we breed them and they loved running in the dog walks in between the trees etc. This was our first yr as caravaners so were Newbies, but we have enjoyed it that much we have just upgraded the Van. The walk to the pub is lovely and the food was to die for. We went out New Yrs eve to dine and then back to enjoy the night with company, and it was great, Cheers Nigel, Wendy and Robbie. We are looking at booking for this yr 2017, as we enjoyed it so much.
