Good for families

Warm welcome - then it all went down hill

We originally booked this site in January 2022 as a group booking for 3 couples in the adults only site where we were all to be sited together. Unfortunately one of the couples had to pull out leaving just the pair of us. On arrival the warden was most welcoming. He knew we were part of a group and after dealing with our particular booking he told us our pitch number, showed us the map and amenities etc, and off we went. We should have double checked then that our friends were allocated the pitch next to us, but we didn't. Two hours later our friends arrived and we were quite surprised to see that they were allocated a pitch next door but one to us. We thought that there would be no problem with them moving to the next pitch. My friend went to see the warden (not the one we saw), and when asked if he could move on to the pitch next to us, the warden was quite rude and said NO! Our friend queried why not, and was told that that particular pitch had been requested and that the reservation was for a week! We wish we had gone up to the reception as we were the ones to make the group booking, but we decided to leave it. On the Saturday a lone caravanner turned up with her little dog. On the Sunday morning our friends (also dog owners), got into conversation with the lady. Not only was she not booked in for a week (she was leaving on Tuesday), but she had NEVER been to the campsite before - in fact she was totally new to caravanning - and couldn't understand herself why we weren't pitched together, as we were always to-ing and fro-ing between our two outfits. Incidentally, on the Saturday our friends got talking to a couple with dogs in the local pub. The subject got round to the campsite and the wardens. Unbelievably the same thing had happened to them. They had made a group booking previously and their group were also split up. They have not returned to the campsite since. The site's website states that they accept groups of up to 4 - but why advertise this if they have no intention of pitching their customers together? The attitude of the wardens certainly put a downer on the weekend. We could not fault the campsite, the facilities were excellent - the wardens - however - seriously need to go on a customer service course. Unfortunately we will not be booking at this campsite again - nor will our friends - so that's 2 if not 3 potential returnees who will not be returning!
