Buy the wardens a ride-on mower!

Smashing site and we would definitely return. We stayed for four peaceful and relaxing nights. Throughout our visit we didn’t hear a sound from the nearby trading estate. In fact all we did hear was constant birdsong. The volunteer wardens. Jan and Steve (I think) were really pleasant and were doing a great job but there is a BUT and this a plea to the club. Please purchase them a power driven mower, preferably a small ride-on. The vintage push along rotary job is not adequate for the amount of cutting required, especially in spring and early summer. I actually felt a bit guilty watching these hard working volunteers slogging up and down in the heat keeping the site looking good for the members. Walking or cycling on the Downs link path is a pleasure although, mountain bikes and hybrids yes, but not a good surface for road bikes. With an OS map or app you can also put together some excellent circular walks on well signed paths. We found a visit to the Milk Churn Coffee shop at the Brick Works, Lynwick Street, made a good rest stop. Likewise the Red Lyon pub in Slinfold village was a welcoming finishing post. We did find cycling out on the road network a bit harrowing and after just one 20 mile trip we almost needed counselling! It was difficult to put a route together that did not necessitate riding along sections of the extremely busy and narrow A roads in the area. Not for the feint hearted!
