Basic, but well-maintained Club Site

Our first use of the van since lockdown restrictions were eased - hallelujah ! The site is easy to find and, although the access road is single track mostly (it also leads to the Forestry Comission site), there are lots of passing places. There is a nice little cafe at the Forestry Commission building and many walks from the site, so our dogs were more than happy. No shower / toilet block, so it's your own facilities. The site was almost full when we were there for 2 nights, but still felt quiet. The wardens are very pleasant and helpful - check out their blackboard for daily musings (you'll understand what I mean when you get there !). Our hardstanding pitch was only just big enough for a 7.92m twin axle van and, although reasonably flat, did need levelling at the rear (the wardens have a large supply of wooden blocks for guests !) The site operates a one-way driving system which can lead to an issue when a number of outfits leave at the same time, as happened to us on a Thursday morning. The motorhome service point is near the exit - although it has enough room for a car and van to drive past by the service point, if you have a queue of 3 motorhomes waiting to drain their grey waste, as we did, you probably won't be able to pass and may have a bit of a wait ! We were in no rush, so it wasn't a problem, but bear it in mind if you need a quick getaway and the site is busy. Overall, a very relaxing few days at this lovely Club Site that is about a 7 mile drive from Stamford centre.
