Good for families

Perfectly located site, very well kept.

Stay: Sun 30 April - Sun 7 May 2023 Two adults, 1 dog Perfectly located site, very well kept. The Wardens were very friendly and helpful. It was the weekend of the Kings Coronation and they made a lovely effort to decorate and came round to each pitch with drinks (there were plans to meet up but it rained). There were no toilet/shower facilities (as advertised) but that wasn't an issue for us. There was a dog wash which was very useful. We enjoyed lots of circular walks of varying abilities directly from the site through Finshades Wood. One evening we walked through the woods to The Royal Oak, Duddington (40mins) and had a beautiful meal. Highly recommend! Another day we walked the longer trail to Kingscliffe where we had lunch at Crosskeys Inn, this was your 'typical pub grub'. The Forestry England Visitor Centre was just a stone throw away from the site where there was a lovely little café and pet shop. I believe there is usually bicycle hire from the Centre however, this was shut for refurbishment. We visited Rutland Water for the day (20min drive) for some more walking (note:dogs on lead) and enjoyed lunch at the Waterside Café before taking the boat from Normanton back to the car parked at Whitwell. There was plwnty more todo and I wish we'd have had more time. Overall we had a very pleasant and enjoyable stay and will more definitely be back.
