REVIEW FINESHADE

Lovely site, very clean, quiet, relaxing. We stayed Sunday to Friday and loved it for the peace and quiet. Wardens were friendly and helpful and the site neat and tidy and doggy friendly. No loo's or showers, but that did not worry us. Approaching lane could be a problem with traffic in either direction, be prepared to reverse your caravan to a passing place The site has a cafe just around the corner and a little pet supplies shop too in what looks like converted farm buildings which was quite handy as the weather was very hot for our visit, and the ice cream was delicious !! Lots to do in surrounding area with wonderful villages/pubs/historic sites. We did the Land Rover experience full day and that was amazing. Disappointingly the Fineshade woodland tracks all appear to be have been made into hardstanding and I booked a horse ride in the forest which for an experienced rider was disappointing as the forestry people appear to have completely forgotten that horse traffic made tracks in ancient times and nowadays they cater only for bicycles. Perhaps they should specifically allocate some grassy tracks for horseriders and not bicycles to restore a balance. A trip on the Rutland Belle is a fun experience, although we did not have the time to do one of their specialist excursions. Make sure you go to the right place to embark, we accidentally missed it and had a hurried, but pleasant one mile walk around the lake to catch the boat. Certainly we would use this site again.
