Our 3rd camc site since we started caravanning in May and found the £50.10 per night fee pricey for the pitch we were allocated. Some of the pitches were smaller than others. We have a twin axle and booked a hard standing with electric and awning but we seemed to have been allocated one of the smaller pitches and it was not big enough. The pitch was only wide enough for the van and awning then the car was supposed to be parked in front of the A frame but ours didn’t fit and was partly on the road. We ended up having to park the car in the car park which wasn’t very convenient. It is a busy and popular site and we found the site to be well maintained and the wardens friendly. The shower block was clean and well looked after. It was reasonably quiet considering how full it was. The road the site is on, A379, is not for the faint hearted as it goes narrow in a lot of places. Definitely need to follow the site’s final approach directions to it. Thankfully we did and had no issues but other people we spoke to, followed sat nav and had no end of trouble. The dog walk was very short and led to the busy main road with no secure gate so need to keep dogs on leads. We liked the farm shop next door though a bit pricey- hubby loved the beer as it’s a micro brewery and is a short walk from the site. We also liked walking to Torcross to the beach- lovely coffee shop which was dog friendly. We found the Start Bay Inn food to be pricey and nothing special but was in a lovely spot for a drink. Sadly 4 days into the holiday I took poorly. We had to get home quickly as I needed emergency eye surgery for a detached retina so we left the caravan on the pitch. My husband had to travel back down (from Northumberland)a couple of days after my op to collect the caravan. Disappointingly we were charged a £110 early cancellation fee as we didn’t give them 3 days notice only 2. Considering we had paid over £700 for a 2 week stay and hadn’t left by choice we were a bit gutted. We did appeal but to no avail. All in all not one of our better holidays
