Good for families

Quiet & well kept site. Good biking area especially with an bike for getting back up those hills

I pitched on No 67 which required horizontal to peg positioning, nice view as elevated and a gap in the trees. The picnic table area has magnificent views. Wardens very helpful and welcoming & keep the site well tended with lots of little quirky colourful touches. Most pitches are hardstanding & there are quite a few serviced pitches for those wanting to be fully plumbed in. Arial socket also available for good TV reception if you bring your cable. The amenities block was kept spotless and the band system seemed to be well respected by members. I brought my ebike so getting back up to the site was not quite effortless but manageable. The Cromford canal towpath can be joined at Ambergate and this takes you on a delightful walk or cycle into Cromford. The Shining Cliff distillery is also just off the main road going out of Ambergate to Cromford on the left and well worth a visit. Bus stops just outside of The Firs site entrance. Nice pubs within walking distance. Wouldn't think there is much to keep children entertained without travelling from the site to places like Matlock Bath etc. I had a very enjoyable stay with good weather, many thanks to the wardens for all their efforts around the site... surprised any prickles escaped their attention though, but they do grow v quickly!
