Tucked out of the way

We arrived here at approx 5pm, so the choice of pitches wasn't great even though there were several vacant pitches but these were not highlighted to us on the site map. I thought you weren't allowed to book specific pitches? Check in was swift and we drove around to take on our water. The best of the pitches was a very long narrow one, just as you drove down from the upper level. The pitch sign said you could park long ways, I couldn't really see how a large MoHo could park any other way! As our hab door is on the 'UK' side I had to reverse on, basically facing against oncoming vehicles. We also felt somewhat isolated as we were away from other guests further down the hill. The pitch being an irregular shape meant we had a spare space to the top away from MoHo but that was right against the road and very weedy; we had an impressive huge prickle weed right outside the hab door!. It felt like you were sitting on the sidewalk as vehicles had to pass us using the one way system. However, we had something of a view over farmer's fields looking towards Newbridge Road/Ambergate. We were also close to a pretty sitting area with benches that looked over the whole valley. Of the one or two nights when it was clear this was a perfect spot to take your wine over and watch the amazing sunsets. Very good Covid precautions in place. The showers/toilets were cleaned twice a day and there was a band collection system in place so no more that 3 people allowed in at any one time. The showers were lovely, very spacious and modern. The site is tucked away but the walk to Belper takes about 25 minutes via Broadholme Lane and onto A6, with Ambergate the same distance via Newbridge Road.....this route is very, very steep, especially coming back! There is a bus stop just outside the site (142) going into Belper which only runs once a day - 11.10 then last one from Belper is 14.30. It terminates at Nether Heague so we stayed on and had a drink in the pub there and walked back, up another very steep hill! This is a very compact site and some pitches did seem small, however it is very pretty with lots of flowers/pots etc. The staff were friendly and we did enjoy our stay and exploring the area.
