Loved the site. Dogs no problem

My experience in answer to the previous post about dogs. I don’t own a dog; I have nothing against dogs but don’t like the bad press they bring (like the previous post). However the site over the weekend was quite busy and there were lots of dogs but I have to say the only dog that was a nuisance seemed to be in the farm house in the wood behind my pitch. All the owners apart from one took their dogs to the dog area; you couldn’t call it a walk, near the bottom of the site. They were all on short leads. I couldn’t fault them. A first for me was in one van. Dogs, no. Cats, no. Three chickens in a cage at the back of the MH YES. It caused a topic of conversation anyway. As for the site, it’s fairly simple but kept well maintained by the two very friendly wardens. Pitches are large and very easy to get onto. The sunniest part on an evening was the pitches at the far end, especially those in the grass field. The only downside for me personally was the road noise. The road runs along the other side of the hedge and is busy and fast for a small village. As has been said the village is quite picturesque with its village green and coffee shops and general stores. Both were very nice and friendly. Of the two pubs I preferred the White Horse Inn, a short walk up the Rosedale Chimney Bank, only because it was old an homely with far reaching views over the dale. The Coaching Inn opposite the site entrance was ok also but was of modern decor but did have a good selection of draught beers which were not expensive either. There is a bus service that stops at the site but it is very poor, only running on Saturday, Sunday and Monday and then quite infrequent, however it will get you to Pickering. For me the location of the site is a winner. It is right at the centre of the Yorkshire moors so nowhere is very far to travel in any direction. You will not miss the wonderful views. I would return even putting up with the noise of the road.

A very good review as it encompassed so many different things and it is nice to have a non negative review from a non dog owner.  Perhaps the  dog area is simply for people to take their dogs when they have first arrived after a long journey or for a late night toilet break rather than having to take their dogs off site.
