Lovely site marred by barking dogs...

We had a great week on the site - peaceful, very helpful wardens, immaculate pitches, great walks with pubs and tea-rooms in the village. And then came the weekend. I've never seen so many dogs on a site - owners with 3, 4 and even 5 dogs on a pitch! If they were seen but not heard we wouldn't have minded so much, but there were dogs barking, and some aggressive animals that loudly objected when people walked past their pitches. The Club needs to tighten up its liberal approach to dog owners. Why is it okay to charge for children, but not for dogs? And they should be limited in number as they are on many affiliated sites. I would recommend The Howard - but not on a weekend...

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for your review and we are delighted you enjoyed the site and found our wardens helpful. Please note that any operational concerns can be raised with us as either feedback or a complaint for formal review by contacting the Club directly. As such please can you email UKSitesBookingService@camc.com and a member of the team will be able to investigate. Many thanks.

I did discuss it with one of the wardens. The problem was it was different dogs at different times. My point is, limit dogs to two, charge for them, as they do on CC affiliated sites, then dog lovers can still bring some of their dogs, and a re-balance has been struck which should please most members...

I'm not sure what point there would be to such a limit. We have rarely seen units with 3 or more dogs on site, but where we have they are usually extremely well looked after and behaved. On the other hand one dog in a unit, left to its own devices whilst it's owners go out for the day can cause havoc.

As for charging, I don't think many would disagree with a nominal charge of, say £1 per night.

Where does the evidence of most members come from?

There is a motor home (not big)on here and it is occupied by two humans? and 9 shitsue dogssurprised but you would not know as they are very quiet ,the majority of dogs which are not is normally down to poor training by the ownerfrown

Not all that easy if one is away for weeks or months thoughwink

However since you have introduced "over there" its my experiance that dogs are nothing like as numerous  when they are charged forwink

We have noted on our trip that w/ends are like entering another world on some sitessurprised

Any where that discourages dogs by charging or not accepting them will in this country find the ones next door who do not discourage ,  atracked arround 25%more buisness,  wink

Three examples,

1 the Weatherspoons in Lymington has lost (in the manager's words )a lot of customers since the trial was ended by their HO

2 in Hawes last month the cafe that allowed dogs was busy the others who did not seemed to have very few customers

3 it was the same with the pubs

Good to see your continued interest in canine matters, David. Note that I said "I don't think anyone would disagree with a nominal charge of £1 a night". I wasn't attempting to predict what, if anything the club will do but I think it would be pretty self defeating to suddenly introduce a fee in excess of that and I doubt it would do anything to curb the fouling/barking that, apparently, some think blights club sites. smile
