Retreat

Just back from our annual holiday to Treamble. A couple of changes this year...charges for early arrivals, new wardens, butcher stopped coming to site. We arrived early about midnight the night before, parked up till the morning reason being we didn't want to drive a long distance then set up the awning etc the same day. On paying we were charged a full days electric pitch fee for arriving early, we had no electric so was a little peeved at this I don't however mind paying a charge but not for electric I did not have. There were two motorhomes who paid non electric the night before but arrived after the camp office closed, the wardens allowed these down to site at 9am while we had to wait until 12 o'clock..strange cos we ended up paying for the night before but got different treatment. To stop early arrivals it seems to me a simple resolution...allow people to book a specific pitch on booking because one of the reasons people arrive early is to get a good pitch. The new wardens are pleasant and inconspicuous. Don't know why the butcher stopped coming to site as I did see him out and about possibly stopped by CC? but strange because other things are available like fish and chips and pizza at a cost. Not enough meat supplies in camp office so I think he should return. Toilet block takes a hammering during summer period and could really do with some money spent on it or adding to the facility, 5 gents toilets is not really enough. Every year I get nervous about the narrow approach lane coming and going but changing the booking process would help this I feel. We will be back again next year no doubt, just wish CC would look into pre pitch booking it would make life easier for members and wardens especially during this pandemic reducing the amount of times a member returns to the camp office is safer all round I.e presently the procedure is book in, go and have a drive round then go back to wardens to tell them where you are pitched up. New procedure could be just book in because you know where your going to pitch.

Reading this review Swift 545 Caravanner, We arrived and experienced the exact same thing, we got there early as we left to escape the traffic from Poole, so about 2-3am, we decided to look up and find the campsite as there were a few road closures in place, after getting stuck up a lane and having to reverse about 300 mtrs in pitch black, we arrived and did not want to go through that again, so we stayed like you until the morning, on a slope and no electric or anything else. I think the staff were ready to pounce as soon as we got in the office to charge us the £37 extra for a full pitch fee (not happy, because every campsite we have been have these overnight late arrivals spots complete with facilities) hey don't mind paying £10- £15 but that full charge is really mean. Apart from that there are so many other campsites near this site much cheaper and nearer to what you want, with better facilities, unlike Treamble.  Don't think we will be going back to Treamble, not keen on the set up or drive to find an empty pitch and report back. Far too uneven and hilly, but just too far out and those tiny width lanes are a joke. Also the showers are ridiculous and no shelves at all, come on they could provide these surely!!!!!, there's nothing to do here, but that's great for some but not for families. Incidently we moved on to CAMC Looe, the tall lady staff member with the glasses was really rude, insisted on a mask (no Problem) and insisted on seeing our member cards (which I did have somewhere in the camper) later produced right under her nose, before going through proof of identity with all my bank cards/documents, even though I had all other paperwork from the camping club, ps later my husband was going into the office, asked if he had to ware a mask, they said it was ok not too???
