Beautiful autumn stay

We stayed at the Troutbeck site for 2 nights last week on way back south from touring Scotland. The site is easily reached from the M6, just 7 miles from Penrith and a short drive off the A66. The site is quite large, fairly open, very well cared for and a credit to the wardens, who obviously work very hard to maintain it. We have never seen such immaculate grass between pitches! The shower and toilet blocks have been rebuilt and are immaculate. For motor home owners, the site is fairly isolated. The nearest pub is a good 1.5 mile walk uphill and then on a road without any pedestrian path. The road from the site direct to Ullswater is very windy and narrow in places with lots of overhanging trees. If taking the motor home to Ullswater it is better to head back towards Penrith and follow the signs off the A66. Pooley Bridge was well worth a visit and lots of suitable parking available once you have crossed the bridge in to the village. Also some amazing riverside pubs. Penrith is also an interesting town to visit. We used the Sandgate car park, as you drive in to the car park look for the spaces to the top left of the car park as there is a grass verge behind the spaces where you can reverse the motor home and let the rear overhang the grass. Car park wardens were very helpful in ensuring we were parked safely. The only negative issue for this site is that there is no club WiFi available. This would put us off a longer stay on the site as we use it to keep in touch with family and friends when we are touring. Also use it for booking tourist attractions, onward sites etc, etc. We pay the annual club fee for WiFi and can’t understand why it is impossible to get a service at Troutbeck site. Surely you can do better Caravan and Motorhome club!
