Wonderful Wharfedale

Absolutely wonderful site. Its one of our favourites and we make sure we have a couple of visits a year. Always immaculate facilities. Well kept site. Warm welcome from 2 new wardens when we arrived at 7pm. Beautifully located site, within an easy walk to the famous Dale's village of Grassington. Lovely cafes and pubs, quirky shops & book shop. Something for everyone. The Devonshire Arms of All Creatures Great & Small fame, complete with film set photos around the snug does a very tasty sunday lunch! Lovely walks to Linton Falls & Burnsall. We did the Burnsall walk this visit, stunning in spring with sparkling waterfalls, gorges, wild flowers, new lambs and plenty of bird and wildlife. We enjoyed watching mandarin ducks, dippers, goosanders and saw our first swallows of 2022 skimming the river! Our spaniel loves all the walks! Gorgeous area. If you haven't visited Wharfdale you must! Make some Yorkshire memories. Thankyou CMC.

2 Children (age 5 & 2) + 2 Adults - Highly Recommend!

What an amazing site! We stayed 5 nights (first week of Easter holidays 2022). This place had everything. Baby and toddler bathroom with bath (ask for key at office) the cleanliness was unbelievable as was the huge shower block and toilets in the ladies. Friendly staff who did regular checks of rubbish area to make sure standards were high, bike spray down area (I mean wow), the area for water/waste/rubbbish and recycling was amazingly clean, clearly labelled and set out. We were so impressed. The enclosed park for the children was perfect and really safe. There was a fairy garden near the front entrance and a pond just down the road from the entrance to the site too. There was a little walk round the site sgain perfect for little ones just to have a little stroll. A field full of lambs not far away from where we were pitched which our two loved to admire while they were being fed at night. On arrival we got a warm welcome and were blown away with the size of the entrance to the site, it was enormous and we were told that if we needed to turn round with the caravan we could easily. This was great to hear as we are still building our confidence with towing the caravan. The pitch itself was fab, gravel ground with a side grass patch. Hubby seemed to manage fine putting the pegs in. They had posters in the shower block that were really informative even an on site mini tourist information centre with leaflets. I could go on. Despite the amount of children including ours it felt peaceful and serene. We will definately be going back! Big thank you to the site for having us.

Great Site but .......

Great site good wardens but of course the wardens work for us the members! The rules are not always followed, for example dogs are frequently on very long leads - longer than the two meters specified amd some members allow them to run round in the toilet block. Not everyone enjoys a dog on a long lead bounding up to them with muddy paws! The 5mph speed limit is rarely observed, brisk walking pace is not difficult to understand so just do it - don't ignore it. This applies to most sites.

Beautiful

We arrived at this site in the sunshine, over the two weeks we were there it snowed, hailed or rained every day! But we were still happy bunnies. The greeting by the staff was amazingly friendly and we felt at ease immediately. The views from the site are beautiful and the walks directly from the site go on for miles. Dogs will not get bored. There’s a shop just a short walk from the site with absolutely everything you could need. We didn’t visit the pub and spa just a stones throw from the site but it looked very nice. It was very peaceful and we often saw the odd deer or two wander through as we explored the area. Definitely one of our favourites so far.

Stormy!

Arrived yesterday (Saturday) after lots of deliberation about travelling especially after the stormy night we had endured at home in Sth Cumbria. We checked all roads were clear and apart from a detour nearer home due to fallen trees, we set off. Arrived safely but alas, the wardens were bearers of bad news, they had no power, no water and no phone signal or landline due to severe outages caused by Storm Arwen. Because of all comms being down, they had no means of notifying us earlier. We decided to stay using our own facilities and the local shop/garage did have large bottles of water to purchase. We managed a night but sadly with no news about how long the site would be entirely off grid, decided to bail this morning. We did have some mobile phone signal so we're able to contact another site to chack availability as we were reluctant to go home as this is the last few days of annual leave we have. The wardens at Wharfedale didn't charge us for our stay after all, we didn't use any facilities or electric. We used a considerable amount of gas however and thank goodness, we have 2 leisure batteries. We are now on the club site at Southport. The wardens here have had some issues but nothing on the scale of Wharfedale. If someone from the Head Office of the club reads this, please can they get some gas upto Wharfedale as the wardens are on their last bottle and cannot vacate like the rest of us and moving forward, if storms are going to be more frequent and damaging, it is vital that the wardens do have comms to help them manage such occasions. We are all so reliant on the digital age, there must be a technology available so that no business is left completely isolated. We are not disappointed, we have managed to survive Storm Arwen. We are sad for the Wharfedale wardens pretty much winging it at present and will visit again as it's one of our favourite sites in the most beautiful county of Nth Yorkshire.

First time with caravan.

This was our first time in our newly acquired caravan. We know the area well from pre-caravan visits and would recommend it. Did not know the site was in the area until we joined the club. Great site and superb location. When we arrived it turned out our jockey wheel was damaged beyond repair. As a result we could not raise the caravan off the tow bar to use the motor mover. However, Peter (1 of the wardens) and a fellow (Alistair), but experienced, tourer sorted us onto our pitch. Peter and his wife were absolutely wonderful during our stay and so considerate towards a new caravaner. Just a final point about the repair that took place to our jockey wheel. We contacted AJSCS Ltd who did agree to come out on Sunday morning to replace our jockey wheel. Unfortunately, we did not know there was £50 call out charge and they charged us £20 for a jockey wheel that we later found out was about £12. It would have been better for us to drive into Harrogate to get a replacement wheel but we will put that down to experience. We don't blame AJSCS - we should have asked for more detail and they did come out on a Sunday morning. Returning to the site this coming weekend for the Xmas switch on in Grassington.

Excellent Assistant Wardens....say no more!

Peter and his wife, the assistant wardens were fabulous and more than helpful; what a shame about the actual wardens who were to say the least unhelpful and autocratic in their approach and attitude, even when indeed they had not given out the correct information and then approached and reprimanded us for not doing as we had been bidden!!! Far more pleasant when the assistants were in charge and being more than helpful. The site, as with previous reviews is beautiful and very good for walks straight from the site with a superb large quarry spreading out for some miles of walks. The pitches are in places a little more than sloping. Our pitch was far too far away from the electric bollard and well over the correct cable length.(as supplied as standard with ALL caravans). This is also true of the TV booster, which we could not use, due to the length from the booster on the bollard. The club needs to provide more bollards, especially as TV reception is extremely poor on this site. Fortunately we have our own Wi-fi hub built in so could when necessary stream programmes on 3Net or Sky Hotspot from our phones. But don't really on this facility if you do not have your own in-built Wi-fi or hotspot facility. Some excellent pubs around, and it is worth the short drive to Cracoe to the pub in the village, which is not only dog friendly but on a Sunday brings your dog a real treat of large pieces of beef. My beef was also huge, delicious and well presented. Worth a visit also to the Blue Bell in Kettlewell with a very friendly set of staff and good "local" beer. Shame that the pub at Kilnsey is now closed, as the walk over from the site is really good, from past experience, and a welcomed break for a drink/bite to eat, before the return over the tops to the site. Grassington always very busy, with some parking difficulty and especially since Covid-19 and social distancing using the pubs in the village for eating is not as pleasurable as in the past. The pub at Linton does not serve food now on several lunchtimes in the week, which is a lovely walk from the site, but the bar is still open.

Great location

The site is positioned in a great position for exploring the beautiful Dales. We went to Grassington of course, but enjoyed even more the quieter Linton and Bursall nearby. Skipton is attractive with chips by the canal a pleasant treat. In terms of the site, usual standards of facilities and cleanliness with pleasant, efficient wardens. Wildlife about: deer and hooting owls. Found the pitches to be the smallest of the sites we have been on so far (admittedly only four!) and many were sloping and hence had a feeling of being a bit more crammed in than usual. EE phone signal strong enough to stream TV. Aerial reception poor. Club wifi good - esp as van right next to transmitter pole!
