Excellent site

Spent a week on site at the beginning of September. Excellent system of booking in at busy times when Warden meets you and lets you through to find pitch before actually booking in which resolves problem of a queue of vehicles spilling out into highway. All staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Facilities spotless. It was good to see Wardens politely reminding visitors of speed limit and also holding early arrivals. Excellent play facilities for children in Park next to site. Although previous review complains about WIFI, I had no problems although admittedly I was not trying to download films etc more than adequate for e-mails and general use.

Where did you stay?

We feel that we must reply to the previous review. We have stayed at Rowntree Park many times over the years and feel that we must take issue with the points raised. There are 25 acres of parkland with a huge children's play area the other side of the hedge, not 2 minutes walk away. If you wanted to, you could walk 10 miles in either direction along the river path, enough excerise to tire any dog. The pitches are relatively close together but this is effectively a city centre site, you are 5 mins walk from the centre of York with all its attractions. We  think this is a fantastic site and will be looking forward very much to our next visit.

Present visit

This site is next to the centre of York. It's cramped and always busy with no facilities for dog owners or families with children. No ares for either to play or exercise in. The pitches are all gravel and each one is serounded by neatly you cut hedges. However Do NOT expect to get on site before 12midday. The warden keeps the Gates firmly locked to all arrivals until 12midday on the dote. You can expect him to approach you at your car with his clipboard on arrival and he will allocate you your pitch especially if you have a large twin wheelbase caravan which the site is not really that good for.

Great site

We have just returned from 2 nights at Rowntree site, this is a brilliant site to visit York, it is about a 10 - 15 minute walk into York centre. No wonder this site is always so booked up. The wardens where very nice and helpful. Will be going back again hopefully soon.

Poor wifi

I have stayed at Rowantree park previously and was very disappointed on my most recent visit to find that the wifi was virtually unusable. I contacted the club and and received a standard reply including a hyperlink to the club website where I was informed that the site was classed as bronze level for wifi, i.e it was not suitable for uploading photos or for programmes like facebook. In previous years I have had no issue with the wifi but on this visit found it so slow that I could not log into the club website to make or amend my bookings. This poor standard of wifi and and miserable reply to my enquiry is not acceptable to me. Others I spoke to had the same complaint. Rowantree park is in a large city and I would expect a far better wifi service for the money I have paid (£25 for the year). Instead I had to rely on my phone and ipad to gain web access and virtually used my entire monthly allowance on both to do so. Speeding is a common issue on club sites and the wardens appear to nothing about it. I understand a child was killed on this site in an incident with a motor vehicle some years ago yet nothing appears to be done to discourage speeding drivers and very young children on bikes blatantly flaunting the 5mph rule . Children are the responsibility of parents and it is down to parents to ensure that their children are not put at risk by speeding around the site, often in the opposite direction to the traffic flow but wardens need to enforce the speed limit for vehicles. 4mph is deemed as a brisk walking pace yet I frequently witnessed cars and motorhomes engage 2nd and even 3rd gear in what is a 5mph limit.

tired and unkept

arrived on site to a long line vans and three wardens giving instructions. which worked well and got the vans in quicker. The site is ideal for York and the beautiful park next door. There is noise from park and pedestrians but nothing to complain about. Site very unkept with weeds and grass areas needing cut. Showers and privacy cubicules had dried soap and dirty water marks on walls for the first three days. But where cleaned when reliefs went in. for thirty odd pound a night the club needs to provide a higher standard.

Spring Break in York

We had 10 nights booked into the York Rowntree site for mid June. Arrived near 2pm to a friendly welcome at reception with advice that since we have an 8m long outfit they had pre-selected a suitable pitch for us although it was clearly expressed that we were under no obligation to accept this, however it was ideal. Once pitched, aquaroll, wastemaster and power all resolved, time to relax a bit. We chose a Domino Pizza takeaway for our evening meal since it is just a short walk out of the back gate, where there is a cluster of restaurants, cafes and takeaways. We were located near some humps that were installed on the road to attempt to slow down drivers - no chance - we had some amusement listening to all their cutlery, crockery and who knows what else clattering about. York carries the legacy of its history in road layout and consequently traffic congestion is always an issue. I think on some trips we spent more time in traffic queues or waiting for traffic lights than we did driving and my fuel consumption dropped markedly. It is a pleasant site so close to the center of York just a short walk away, but given the traffic congestion I think our next trip to York will be to Beechwood Grange as we can get to many places that we still want to visit, more easily via the outer ring and for York central the Park and Ride from Monks Cross will get us quite fast to the center along the extensive bus lanes. Monks cross shops will provide enough retail therapy for anyone.

Perfect site for a visit to York

Stayed for three nights beginning of July, Ten minute walk to City centre but site was still peaceful and secluded. All facilities were kept spotless and check in was fast and efficient. Will always be my first choice if visiting the city

Excellent City Break

This was our first visit but hopefully not our last. The site is really well maintained with very friendly staff on hand to help. The site couldn't be better located for visiting York as it's only a few minutes walk from the centre. Absolutely great!
