The Belchenblick Experience

This was our second visit to Belchenblick and it is easy to locate being not far out of the town of Staufen, which is quite delightful with good restaurants. We found the staff very helpful and accommodating. We had booked for 7 nights through the Club, but we stayed on a further 6 nights. They are very keen to welcome members of the Caravan Club. Speaking German enhanced the whole experience for me, but this is not necessary here. There were at least 6 Bailey caravans and other various British makes on the site during our stay. We found it a good base for exploring areas of the Southern Black Forest, e.g. Titisee and Freiburg. The Konus Card free travel and local parking is an advantage. As regards No 2 above there is a railway track adjacent to the site, but we did not find the noise in any way annoying. We used that train to take us part way to Freiburg before boarding a train on the main line. Overall we would not hesitate to go there again.

Had a lovely few days

Stayed here at the start of August. We have a 8 meter tag axel Motor home and we were put on a pitch that was great for our size. It is a typical German site, Pitches can be close together but that is what we are used to when staying in the country. Staff are polite and do all they can to help. We will go back

An old Favourite

We have just returned from our latest visit. We have been coming here most years since 1991. Yes,if you have large twin axle or camper-van with car and trailer you will find it tight. If you do confine your visit and pitch to the area around reception it may be busy. If you expected to be waited on it won't happen, but staff will site you by tractor if you ask. We have always found the staff very approachable.I agree some facilities need upgrading but the friendship of the regulars and the location make up for this. This site never disappoints. Belchenblick has so much to offer, surrounded by vineyards, a short by the river into Staufen. The thermal baths nearby in Bad Krozingen, and up the valley an outlet shop selling chocolates are both worth a visit. All this is set in an area with so much to offer. PS the train does not run late in the evening.

What a find

I'm confused. This site was amazing, maybe it's because we a new to this camping and normally rough it in hotels. It was freindly (even-though we both do not speak German) and very welcoming . Just a short walk from Staufen along a river path. The food was amazing in the village and again we felt welcome. The bar on site was a little eccentric but delivered plenty of local refreshment. The only thing I would say was the retest to use the site shop, it was very sparse. There we plenty of wines, tinned food and ice cream, but little else. However what the shop failed to supply we made up at the local shops. I will definitely  recommend this site to the less decerning (less fussy ) traveler

Not Impressed

Stayed one night on way south and one night on way home. Office staff friendly but can't say same for others. Pitch on way south was pretty poor and small. Had to put nose of van in towards the hedge so that all van doors in the row face the same direction. Luckily the van is fitted with a mover. If we had put up an awning then the car would have had to go outside the gate. We were initially allocated the same pitch on the way north but due to heavy rain the pitch was flooded and muddy so we were given another on a different and better part of the site but still small. Staff on this occasion did guide us around the obstacles and uneven terrain. Site does provide adaptors for 2 pin electric hook ups but you need to check polarity. The site is handy for walking into Staufen with good walks/cycling routes in the area. It is also handy for access to the motorway. Toilets were clean, unfortunately they didn't smell clean and fresh. We didn't use the shop. WiFi was non existent. Access to the swimming pool close by is free. Altogether, this site does not get our vote for favourite site.

First and last time

Nice area, shame about the site! Staff are generally unhelpful and totally inflexible. They fail manage the access problem, allowing early arrivals (10.00am.) to block the exit. Staff stood and watched an English caravanner unhitch his van and take it out on the motor mover in order to get out. The facilities are drab and depressing and not particularly clean. Shop was unhygienic and very low on stock. Reverse polarity problems. The Konus free travel card was a bonus as was the parking pass as Staufen and Frieburg are well worth a visit, just don't stay at Belchenblick!

just noticed that they claim wifi for the entire site, not true, had to sit outside reception!

Appalling site

The CC should drop this site immediately.  It was absolutely terrible and certainly not suitable for a twin axle caravan. We waited at reception for 1 and a half hours with only 3 in front of us. Then we were taken on a torturous route via outbuildings to a grotesquely small pitch, which proved exceptionally difficult to access.  On the route into the site both my caravan and the one in front was damaged, Due to the tight manouvers and no guidance by the site staff. The also allowed cars to park on the access roads near the corners, limiting manoueverability even further. The annoying thing was that this site was recommended by the CC at short notice because I had to divert out of France due the 2016 fuel issues.  The CC failed to consider the access issues for larger outfits. At least the CC should warn others of the site access issues.

Response from the site:

Thank you for your review and for your feedback. We wanted to let you know that since July 2016 we have had a new manager on site and since then we have had no complaints about our reception and personnel.

Why does CC still use this site?

Our stay here was spoiled by an over officious young man who sited vans - he obviously disliked Brits. We stayed one night going south and 2 on our way back. When he first sited our van we were not happy but for one night....   On leaving he overcharged us for electricity (suspected but not sure until our 2nd visit).  Arriving the second time he put us in exactly the same spot, hitch into a hedge and door over gravel, and would not respond to our requests to move the van within the pitch. This meant I had to park my car on another pitch as the large electricity box stopped me parking on the pitch. He did not like this either but had to put up with it. When challenged he said ' Tell the Caravan Club, tell the internet, tell everyone, I don't care' The site owner seemed fine; we chatted in a mixture of German and English. The site itself needs bringing up to date, and needs a lot more care. The narrow entrance, poor state of pitches, and long lunch break don't help. We shall not return. Caravan Club - why do you still use this site? Has anyone looked at Camping Sulzbachtal, just down the road?

TERRIBLE- Very rude staff

We done a European trip and arrived from Belgium about 7.30 in the evening. A totally lazy( couldn't be bothered, it seemed like we disturbed him) and scary man came out and let us in without explaining anything to us, he said the RECEPTION is closed!!! Even so they supposed to be open till 10! Whatever, we settled and in the morning had our breakfast and relaxed for a bit and in the afternoon we wanted to leave the site to visit Staufen, we had two young girls in the car! Then we noticed that the barrier wouldn't open!! We try to speak to one of the staff and HE Kept saying, you can not get out is closed until 3 o'clock! I said, wait a minute this was not explained to us and we only have two days to visit Germany so we want to be let out!! He kept pointing at the barrier, with a sign written in German, saying this is NOT England its Deutschland!!!! Then the so called "manager" came out and I am not kidding, he started to scream at us, swearing in German, the girls were terrified. I wanted to call the police, so scary and rude this man was, never saw someone acting in this way in my life!!!! We wanted to take the caravan and to leave straight away but he wouldn't open the barrier. After saying that I call the police, he let us leave only with the car and then after 3PM we came and took our caravan and moved to a beautiful site not too far. PLEASE avoid this place, still in shock now.

September 2015 stay

The reception greeting is something else, grumpy is an understatement, the WIFI does no work so don't spend the 5 euros on it - the site is ideal for the beautiful town of Stefaun just a 10 to 15 minute walk from the site, it was a good location for us to tour the black forest, the railway line did not really bother us, the washing, whilst there is a ladies wash area it was found the women were all bathing in the mens shower rooms - discreetly of course, however a site that is starting to tire and a refurbishment required, however the site was well populated and appeared to be a good stop over for those heading to the Italian lakes.
