Not your average CC site

Got to Birkelt from Rudesheim in Germany amidst dreadful weather to find the site access roads mini streams and the pitch waterlogged! Amazed at how quckly the water drained away and from then on it was pretty good, each time it rained (there were a few minutes between each passing shower) the pond outside our awning filled, only to drain away once more. When the weather improved on the second day we ventured into the pretty and quiet Larochette via the short (but very steep) path to catch the bus (2€ each way) into Luxembourg City which was surprisingly interesting, so much so that we did the same thing the next day rather than driving to Trier as planned. We therefore didn't have much time to test the facilities at the site and regretfully didn't get a swim in the pool. However we did have a couple of meals in the restaurant which (apart from the stale pizza base) were pretty good and the staff genial and accomodating. Settling in for a couple of beers from the shop (0.79€!) we did however enjoy the peace and quiet of an evening, finishing off in the clean and extensive toilet block but which, as in Rudesheim, had no sink plugs. Showers were timed which was irritating and hot water non-existent for an early riser such as I so black mark there but overall I would return not just for the superb setting and lovely walks around the site but for a swim and another few beers in front of the awning (weather permitting of course).
