First class Loire pitch

This is our third visit to chantepie and as always it remains a first class stop. We booked our Loire view pitch 12 months ahead to ensure we got the actual pitch we wanted. The view from the pitch is fantastic. Among the best pitches available in france. It's not cheap but what is in this life if you want the best. 10 to 16 amps of power and water plus drainage very close. Even when the site is full in the height of the season all is quiet Saumur centre is 10 minutes drive away and there are plenty of walks in the area. Cadre Noir horse stables also 10 minutes drive away. A first class fully recommended site for your Loire visit but book early.

Dissapointed

The site in july was very tired looking. Hedges grass and trees all needed trimming. We have visited site a few times but very disappointed this year.  It is not a 5 star site and the price paid was far to much. it is a shame as we like the location but will not be returning.

Disappointed

Arrived for one week at the end of June after a period of rain, pitch muddy and unable to manoeuvre. Pitches and site poorly maintained although the swimming pool was good. They did start to clear the site as we were leaving. It may warrant a four star rating in July and August but I wouldn't give it more than three in June.

Camping Chantepie

We arrived on the 8th of July and introduced ourselves to the delightful young lady who had not got a clue why we were there. She was helped out by another member of staff and we were given a pitch. The pitch was covered in mole hills and skid mark ruts about 15cms deep. We complained and were told to pick a pitch of our choice this we did. The site as a whole did not seem ready to receive guests and was generally shabby. The pool was ok but weeds were growing from between the flag stones. The shop was no longer there and bread was available from the bar. We found the site adequate but certainly not worth what we paid for it, this we found very disappointing as we have stayed there before when it was really well run and is no longer worthy of a 5 star rating.

Not the site it was

Stayed here 01/07/16 for a week. Had visited a year ago and enjoyed it so much we booked for next year there and then. Sadly, the site has changed hands and the effort made by the new company is sadly lacking. Grass and hedges not cut, weeds starting to grow up through the block paving around the pool, flower beds not tended. The bar and restaurant (which we thought was good last year, serving meals) now only does pizzas and some other snacks. The original shop and little café is closed, with the shop now in reception. Whilst we were there it seemed that more staff appeared and did start to tend the grounds, the bar remained open and kids club and other activities started (e.g. a band in the bar who were good, film night etc.). So I reckon they will ramp up for June/July/August and not bother for the rest of the year. We think it is a real pity as the location is superb and the site could return to it's excellent standards. In summary, if you have visited previously don't expect the same high standards as before, but it is a great location and peaceful.

Pleasant Rural Location with Good Views across The Loire Vally

The pitches were sadly lacking with regard to grass cutting etc. Sanitary facilities are adequate as far as cleanliness is concerned but needing to be upgraded. There is no shop and the restaurant was closed when we were there in May. General 'run-down' feeling about the site.

Chantepie disapointment

I have stayed at Chantepie on two previous occasions and had been more than happy with the site. Unfortunately, since my previous stay it appears to have changed hands and is no longer to the former high standards. Whilst I acknowledge that the weather conditions have been very poor in recent weeks, there appears to have been no attempt to cut the grass or trim back overgrown shrubs and trees this year making some pitches unuseable. It was also disappointing to find the Chemical disposal trough blocked and overflowing! I would be reluctant to use it again.

Lovely Loire

Stayed for 4 days in late August. First stayed here 25 years ago and the welcome was just as warm. Water taps could do with updating and as usual (en France) we had problems disposing of waste water. Also the restaurant was very poor - extremely slow service (hours) and poor food - disappointing. Nice pool and new upstairs family showers. Superb location overlooking the Loire. Lots of Welsh people so felt at home.

August 2015

Stayed the last 2 weeks of August - 2 adults and 5 children.  We were told that the worst caravan sites in France were better than the best caravan sites in the UK - this would appear not to be the case.  Our pitch was a grass pitch which we paid for a full service pitch but were shocked to find it not at all level.  The location of the waste meant that if we took our full size awning we would not have got that up in the space provided.  The pool area was good however most of the slabs around the covered pool were loose.  The bar/restaurant was quite pricey and the food was average.  Will visit France again but not at this site.  We booked as it was advertised free wife however the wifi was  very poor and we could hardly ever get a signal.

Fabulous except wi-fi

Friendly, pleasant, clean and great facilities, except two little niggles. We arrived on Sunday 30 August to find that both the shop and restaurant had closed for the season, fortunately we had some food in our fridge but...Other niggle was that the site wide wi-fi, now trumpeted as being free all over the site, was slow and keep cutting out... not a disaster but irritating. Apart from that one of the best sites I have ever visited. A tip, if you want to stock up on wine for the return to UK go to see Thiery Berson in Atout Vins in Doue La Fontaine, his knowledge and prices are second to none, he used to be Gordon Ramsay's Somelier
