A lovely place to stay

We stayed in August for 10 nights, friendly & helpful staff, clean toilets and showers, Large pitches.  I'm not surprised it's 5 star.  Would highly recommend.

Great family site

We first visited this site about 30 years ago and have done several stop-overs since. We always loved it so decided to stay 8 nights this year. The site has evolved into much more of a tourist/family site and has been well and truly found by the British! So the French flavour isn't so much in evidence. The view over the Loire is still lovely and the sparkling wine producers at St. Hilaire St. Florent are still producing their nectar but I doubt if we will stay again as it was too much of a family holiday site for a "mature" (!) couple. Our emplacement was very small compared to all the others we saw, possibly because we were just a couple and not a family. Some other emplacements were huge and well used. We were opposite the children's playground which was very good for little children and a source of endless amusement for us but we could have done with a bit more peace and quiet. Showers, toilets etc were fine, the pools were rather chaotic and inclined to be cloudy which made us question their cleanliness. The footbath you have to go through when entering the pool area was disgusting. The shop was adequate but there is a large E Leclerc in Saumur which is excellent. We have always admired the fact that mentally handicapped people are employed on the site and also at the sister site near Brissac (where we have also stayed). This is not the site for a relaxing stay but excellent for young families as there is a lot going on.

Pitch perfect

Just back from 19 nights at Chantpie. My 4 kids had the time of their lives, making lots of friends and spending loads of time in the heated (genuinely is!) swimming pool.  Get there for 10-11 am and you'll have the pool pretty much to yourself.   We stayed on pitch C7. Absolutely massive, away from the pool/play area and very peaceful. Perfect. I wouldn't have liked a pitch too near the kids' facilities, as could get noisy until about 11pm. A few of the concrete slabs around the pool need replacing (very wobbly), and the site needs a touch of paint here and there. Overall, we had an amazing holiday. I would recommend this site, but much will depend on the pitch you're allocated. You may want to be close to the play area to keep an eye on your kids. If so, expect noise until late. However, there are plenty of quiet pitches, and some are incredibly big!

Busy and noisy

We have just returned from 10 days on this site and whilst we appreciate it was peak season, we were surprised at the noise level at night. Children running around shouting at 11.30pm with very little supervision from parents or site owners. It's a pity as the site is very well maintained and clean facilities. It has a great location and perhaps in June or September will be very different. Super pitches large and Loire view pitches gorgeous. Pool area mayhem, largely due to unsupervised children and lack of staff on site checking on behaviour. Mainly English visitors and most people quiet and considerate, it's a pity a few spoil it for the majority. In our opinion more staff and supervision required in high season.

Okay a little disapointing

We visited Camping Chantepie during July 2015. The site is well signposted from the town of Saumur about 8 miles away and as motor-home owners we needed to take our vehicle out each time we wanted to leave the site.  When we arrived we were greeted by an English speaking receptionist who directed us to our pitch (J2) I was disappointed that the pitch we'd been allocated was one of the smallest, very shaded and near to the pool.  We asked if we could move and was given the option of another two pitches, we chose pitch N10 which was over the other side of the camp site which was much more to our liking, away from the noise and very sunny.  There's a restaurant on site with a very limited menu but the food was good. There is an onsite shop which sells a limited range of food that included fresh pastries and bread each morning. The wine tasting was a market on site and not what we expected at all.  There were plenty of toilets and showers that were cleaned daily along with a large washing up area.  There was plenty to do for families .  The selling point of this site are the views over the Loire but this was only available for a limited number of pitches Nos L20, L5, L6, L7 and L8.  Some areas on the site do have small pitches and appeared to be very crowded.

Good base for Loir

We had pitch on a area no one opposite , good sized pitch. Quiet away from play area. Restaurant was good but limited menu but unusually closes on Tuesday in peak season! The market was limited and as other said wine tasting was a bit of a let down. The shop on site did not stock any meats and limited other items ( Saumur is 19KM away so need transport) The view is only available from about 5 pitches on site so not a real selling point. Plenty of family things to do so good for those with children, pool is good but could get crowded. Toilet facilities were plentiful and clean. Will definitely go again, staff very good. WIFI is pretty poor as others have found out

Good for families, but not for us

Very helpful staff; on request, moved us away from the playground, where we had been placed. The pitches were quite tight and close together. There was a problem with the power, which kept tripping our fridge (possibly voltage dips); this has not been a problem that we have experienced on any other sites. The WiFi was accessible only for a few minutes each day as it seems that there was a problem with their server. The advertised wine tasting and market on site turned out to be low-key affairs, with little on offer. We didn't try the bar/ restaurant on site, so can't comment. The site probably suits families better than an older couple like us (most of the campers were British families). The free motorhome lay-by a few miles along the main road probably offered better views of the Loire.

Extraordinary View

One night stopover on our way home at the end of July. Really liked the site and the view over the Loire was enhanced by a beautiful sunset and a rainbow as a storm moved up the valley. Pool good. Disappointed to find that the closure of the bar and restaurant coincided with our visit on a Tuesday so can't comment on that part of the site. We'll probably return for longer stay sometime.

July 15

Took a 'super pitch' with water / waste / electricity which were very spacious, some of the largest we have been on abroad. There is another area that overlooks the Loire valley with great views too. Booking in was easy. There is a small shop with essential items although there is a very large supermarket 5 miles away in Saumur with everything you could possibly need. No organised evening entertainment when we were there in mid July. Two toilet areas, the original ground level one was adequate but the one upstairs was newer and much brighter. Pool looked clean although we didn't use it. Limited choices at the restaurant and bar shut around 2230. Plenty to visit in the area, the centre of Angers we particularly enjoyed. Would be happy to return to this site if visiting this area in future years.

Peaceful with spectacularview

The pitch was large, although our grass was a bit long encouraging the mosies to feast at night if you were sitting out.  This was the first time in using a serviced pitch and it will not be the last. No worries about getting water or emptying the waste. The staff were excellent and spoke perfect english, which did not help our French. The site was clean and the facilities were very well looked after. The down side for us was that the bar did not open till 6pm and the meals were reasonably priced but not a great choice. We did not have children but their club seemed poor and again would be better if all day events were put on. All in all for my wife and myself it was a great site for an excellent stay at Saumur plus we had the weather which always helps. I would recommend this site for a relaxing holiday. I would also return in several years time. Visited this year first 2 weeks in July 2015
