Good for families

Served its purpose ...

Two nights spent here over New Year en route to the ferry at the Hoek.

First impressions are good; friendly and helpful reception and spacious pitches if not a little worn and very muddy. The facilities appeared to be relatively new and were clean, warm and functional.

This site, I imagine, will be very busy in summer as it is geared to providing an activity-filled holiday for the families who come with tents and tourers as well as the those looking for a billet in cabin-type accommodation. There seemed to be a significant number of privately-owned cabins some of which were occupied whilst we were there.

Our second afternoon was somewhat disturbed by the relentless ‘beat’ of music coming from the bar whilst the management set up the place for the New Years’ Eve party. Asking in reception if there was to be a party later that evening, we were curtly informed that it was for their regular guests only. By this, we took it to mean those that were holidaying in the privately owned cabins. Our reason for the enquiry was not to secure an invite to the same but rather to see if we could move further away from the ‘din’ fearing that it would only get worse as the night went on and we did have an early start in order to get away the next morning. We moved well away and the noise of the bar was then inaudible.

We settled to a quieter night but the fireworks (understandable) awoke us: the site’s display was soon over but it then transpired that many of the regular guests had bought quantities to let off on the site, wherever they chose, and with little regard for the outfits of visitors.

It is a site that served its purpose for us: we would not return despite its relative cheapness as a member of the management, not knowing that our knowledge of Dutch was probably far better than she imagined, was not exactly welcoming in her comments to us as we walked by her on returning from a walk!
