Avoid!

There is no way this is a 4* site as advertised in the sites abroad brochure. It was tired and run down, to the point of neglect. The majority of pitches were so sloping and bumpy that you would not be able to get a van onto them. We arrived mid afternoon on a Sunday in mid July. Reception was closed. No opening times were displayed. There was a whiteboard outside saying the restaurant and bar were closed until Tues. We genuinely thought the site was shut for 2 days. The few posters or leaflets that were on the notice boards were from previous years and faded. The whole place just had an air of decline and neglect. It is not a thriving concern. There can't have been more than 20 outfits on the site. The brochure says "pitches are kept natural to preserve the local flora and fauna" - I think perhaps there is another explanation! We had paid in advance, so helped ourselves to a pitch - one of the few we felt we could get onto. To be fair, there was someone in reception that evening, and there was bread in the morning. And the lake is very pretty. Just as well we were only there for an overnight stop en route for the ferry home. I suggest the CAMC should review whether this site really does fit into their portfolio of sites abroad - before next years brochure is compiled.
