A quiet little gem of a site

Our stay at Camping Merry-sur-Yonne was in the third week of May but even then the site was fairly busy with a majority of Dutch caravans & motorhomes present. That said it was also respectably quiet and peaceful. Following a very warm welcome, we were able to select a pitch and opted for plenty of shade as the weather was becoming warmer. The pitch chosen threw up a snag with electrical connections but, the site owner soon fixed our problem by lending us an adapter (the two we carried allowed for either polarity but were of the continental - two pin variety). Our pitch was approximately 225 sq mts in area in a combination of a concrete hardstanding and grass. The showers & loo facilities were never over stretched but could be considered to be in need of better ventilation, with the other facilities being adequate, and there was a small and very well provided for shop on site (which also doubles as the village store) at very reasonable prices; there is also a bar with indoor seating and an outdoor terrace. However, the highlight for this little site is the fact that not only to they provide a fast food takeaway in the early evening, but there is also an "a la carte" restaurant available too with some incredibly innovative dishes available. This was most unexpected and a delight to experience! Beware, access to the site is narrow when crossing the Nivernais canal but it is fairly easily negotiated - as is the narrow access to the main site at the other end of the village but, rest assured that the effort is worth it!!
