Motorhome stopover

An absolute gem of a site. Great location and great weather! We were not expecting >30 oC but it was smashing! Visited Camping Pena Montanesa in early August 2015 with my wife a 2 daughters (14 and 10).  Stayed in our MH for 6 nights. Upon arrival we were asked if we wanted a 'sun' or 'shadow' pitch by the 'bouncers' on the gate (these were a great bunch of guys who were really friendly) and opted for 'shadow'.  We were escorted down a very narrow tree lined track and it was quite tricky parking the MH up. The pitches were quite tightly packed. The trees may have provided shade but they also provided a barrier to the wind and so it was quite hot and still under them. After a few days we decided to move to one of the sun pitches. There was far more space and manoeuvring in and out of the pitch was far easier.  The view of the Pyrenees was far better and also it was a lot quieter. The facilities were good but one of the shower blocks needs modernising. The pools were great with 3 to choose from and the hot tubs an added bonus. The shop is relatively well stocked but a trip the supermarket in Ainsa provided a better selection of fresh produce. The bar is good for snacks but I wouldn't recommend the restaurant.  We tried it for one meal and were very disappointed - poor quality and overpriced. There are some far better restaurants in Ainsa particularly in the old town. The staff were pretty good and responded well to my efforts to speak in Spanish.  The river Cinco runs past the site and there is a pleasant walk up to Labuerda. On a hot day the river is a great way to cool off.  We did have one day of thunderstorms but we went white water rafting on that day! By reception there is an EKM sports representative to book such things through.  The cycling is great, the Spanish seem to have so much respect for cyclists.  I’d certainly go back to this site.
