First time long stay winter rally - would definitely return

This was the first time I had taken part in a long stay winter rally and I would definitely repeat the experience - what's more, I would return to Vilanova Park. Much of what the other reviewers (to date) have said is true and I would agree with it. However, where I part company with others is in how far any of it spoilt my experience of spending 4 weeks in Spain during the winter. For me, none of it marred the experience. There were quite a few steps from the rally pitches to the toilet block, the descriptions of which are accurate, and then more to get up to the level of the supermarket and bar/restaurant etc. You can walk round a (much) longer way which involves no steps at all. There are a lot of feral cats on site but again, their presence did not bother me and I did not see any cat poo anywhere. I did see a lot of small green (very noisy) parrots and some red squirrels, which were delightful. The bar and restaurant on site were good and the supermarket was excellent, although a bit more expensive than the supermarkets in town, but not overly so. I suppose you pay for the convenience. I didn't have a long waste hose but will get one if I visit again and I also couldn't attach my fresh water hose to the tap and couldn't buy a connector that did fit. However other ralliers were happy to lend me their hoses when I needed to top up my fresh water. The park could make a killing if they sold them in their on site shop! Vilanova is a large town with lots of shops and a great market on Saturdays. The covered market is also there every weekday (I think). Vilanova has a lovely seafront and a good beach and a pretty old town area. Plaza de la Vila is lovely. It is not a typical Spanish resort but I liked it. I didn't eat out in town so I can't say if there are any decent restaurants, but others I spoke to said they had found some. The bus from the park gates into Vilanova was extremely useful and I took it nearly every day. It does take quite a long time to get into town so you have to be patient. I never drove into town so parking wasn't an issue but I know that dogs are not permitted on the bus, so some people found it difficult to get into town without driving. I used the trains up and down the coast to visit Barcelona and Sitges multiple times and also going in the opposite direction to Cubelles and Calafell. Rally hosts Jan and Nigel were great and made me feel very welcome - thanks guys! The events that were organised were varied and fun. There was at least one event every day. I went to the quiz, Finnish skittles, boules, a walk (which was organised by one of the rally members) and a rally meal. I wish I'd joined in more of the events especially the walks as everyone I met was so friendly. For a first time experience, this was excellent, one I definitely want to repeat.
