Why stay here ...

Located in a small spa town on the Costa de Prata, São Pedro de Moel is a charming site set in a pine wood, and a great base from which to discover northern Portugal. Pitches are unmarked, so you can simply choose a place to pitch up between the trees.

São Pedro is busy in high season, but offers peace and relaxation outside of the summer months with clean, well-maintained facilities. The swimming pool with fun slide is popular with families, and there is an excellent play area to entertain small children.

There's sandy beaches, shops, bars and restaurants in the delightful coastal town of São Pedro de Moel, just a short walk away. Inland, the nearby town of Marinha Grande is famed for its glass works and visitors can enjoy the Museu do Vidro where many stunning pieces are on display. Those looking for an active holiday will find plenty of cycle paths and water sports to keep them busy.

Mixed feelings

São Pedro de Moel
Reception were really friendly. The pool area was amazing. Shop and bar not open but could get bread from reception. Toilet block was adequate. Location was was good as the village was lovely but only a few restaurants open. Beach was great. However it was very difficult to find a suitable place to pitch as the ground was not only very sloping but also very sandy so very limited options. Saw people being towed off when they sank in the sand. Really not sure how you would get 600 units on site.

Relaxing and peaceful

São Pedro de Moel
Orbitur Sao Pedro is a very laid back site. The staff on reception are lovely and welcoming, helping with many extra things, and even booking a taxi for us. The whole place is very relaxed - and this includes not just the atmosphere but the way the site is run. Don't expect a site like the all-singing-all-dancing sites in Spain! There are no marked pitches - apart from a few pitches that seem to be only reservable if you book directly with the site - the option to book the better pitches wasn't available on the club website. You can choose to pitch up anywhere apart from these reserved spots. The pitches are sandy and uneven, so be prepared. We needed to use 4 chocks with our motorhome to level AND stop it sinking. You need a long electric lead as each sector only has one large power point. The site facilities are modest - a bar, games room and restaurant and a small pool with flume. The supermarket appears small at first, but is actually larger than any shop in Sao Pedro itself. The nearest large supermarket is a Continente in Marinha Grande. The toilet and shower facitlities are OK - one of the blocks is a lot newer than the others, so we chose to use that one as the other blocks were a bit rough round the edges. The location of the site is fantastic; at the edge of the pine forest, with dozens of fabulous cycle paths, and only 10 minutes walk from a super beach and wonderful walks along the spectacular cliffs. The site is very quiet and peaceful. We had a great time here, and would happily return.

Quality of site

São Pedro de Moel

We found this site to be one of the worst we have ever stayed on. Understaffed and not helpful. If you wanted to use the shop you had to ring the bell and when they had finished serving in the bar they would stroll the 60 yards or so to the shop and open it for you, ( if they answered the bell) Out of 4 shower blocks only one was in use with two showers only to service the site. They said there was another open at the top of the site, which I used I washed my hair and soaped up just as the water stopped. They was no water anywhere in the block. Again no toilet paper provided I had to run down to the other block covered in soap. It was a joke. Never will I stay at this site again absolutely appalling. Granted it was beginning of September but if these sites are open then they should be run as if they were, not a skeleton crew and charging top money, A JOKE.

Response from the Caravan Club:

Thank you for leaving this review on the Caravan Club’s website.  We are sorry that you found the site to be of poor quality.  Many of the overseas sites do start to reduce the facilities offered in high season when the demand decreases.  As your club we are always happy to advise of the closure of facilities on site to avoid any disappointment.

Response from Sao Pedro de Moel:

We thank you for your communication and, first of all, we sincerely regret any inconvenience.

In the light of your communication, we would like to clarify that, in fact, as a result of a sharp fall in demand in the month of September, the campsite begins to reduce several of the services it provides. This reduction includes the minimarket and, therefore this facility is only available to the clients on demand, namely by ringing a doorbell to call a staff member.

In addition, we also close two of the four existing sanitary blocks. One of the open sanitary blocks has two male showers and two female showers and the other six of each.

Regarding the water failure, please note that no anomalies were detected in water supply at that time. We also would like to clarify that toilet paper is not provided at the sanitary blocks of S. Pedro de Moel Orbitur campsite.

We thank you once again and apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Yours sincerely,

Anabela

Reserved or not reserved, that is the question?

São Pedro de Moel
Our first impression of Sao Pedro de Moel was not that great. We have a large outfit so paid extra to the Caravan Club for a large pitch. When we arrived on site we were simply told to park anywhere and try as we might we couldn’t get on any of the pitches. There were some larger pitches but were all reserved and out of bounds on the map we were given. It felt like my first time caravanning as every pitch is sandy so we got stuck several times and as you can imagine the stress levels were somewhat high. We eventually gave up and after some negotiation we were allowed on one of the reserved pitches. Looking at the price we had paid to the Caravan Club vs the prices displayed on site we had grossly overpaid and more than covered the cost of a reserved pitch. ? The facilities on site were fine, the staff friendly and helpful and the location was perfect for walking into Sao Pedro de Moel or cycling in the forest or on the many cycle paths. Just a word of warning – watch the tree sap. Our car was covered and we left it until we got home only to find it had set like glue.

6 nights on a grand tour

São Pedro de Moel

A nice site, clean.. We used it off season and the site was empty so park where you like under the trees.. At that time, as advertised, no facilities were open. A lovely walk into Pedro da Moel, a charming small coast resort.   I would return.
