10/07/2026

  • Spontaneous sunshine: 42% of Brits now adapt travel plans in real-time based on the forecast, with 39% embracing spontaneous domestic breaks to make the most of the glorious summer sun.
  • The summer split: New Club community data reveals a distinct divide in how holidaymakers love to enjoy the heatwave: while 33% head for a coastal breeze, an equal 33% seek out peaceful rural or city hideaways, alongside those chasing shady woodland locations (16%) and river microclimates (16%).
  • Summer comfort: The Caravan and Motorhome Club shares top tips for staying perfectly comfortable in the sunshine, highlighting how members and guests are making the most of the hot weather with spontaneous getaways.

With temperatures soaring across the UK, touring fans are celebrating the sunshine by embracing a major travel trend: the rise of the "Weather-Chaser."  New data from Mintel reveals that 39% of UK holidaymakers now use real-time forecasts to plan spontaneous domestic getaways, while separate research from The Harris Poll shows that 42% of Brits are ready to adapt their plans at short notice to follow the sunshine and enjoy the ultimate British summer.

To find out exactly how these spontaneous sun-seekers are making the most of the weather, the Caravan and Motorhome Club polled its community. The results revealed that members are loving the hot weather and using the flexibility of touring to find their own perfect summer environment. While a third of Brits are "Coast Chasers" heading straight for a beach breeze (33%), an equal number are searching for "Something Else Entirely" (33%) by exploring peaceful retreats, sunny, vibrant cities, and off-the-beaten-path countryside. Meanwhile, escaping to shady, cool forest locations (16%) and pitching by a lakeside or riverside retreat (16%) also proved highly popular, proving the Club’s UK campsite network offers a perfect summer haven for everyone.

Unlocking the UK’s ultimate summer network

To help holidaymakers find their ideal summer environment, the Caravan and Motorhome Club features locations tailored to every type of summer preference across its vast UK network of over 2,400 campsites. By utilising natural microclimates, holidaymakers can choose their perfect backdrop anywhere in the country:

  • Coastal airflow: Dozens of beachside and clifftop destinations positioned to capture premium, refreshing sea breezes and sunshine.
  • Deep canopy shade: Both city and countryside locations featuring established tree lines that offer natural, cool shelter from the peak afternoon sun.
  • Waterway cooling: Riverside and lakeside pitches where moving water naturally lowers the surrounding night-time temperature.
  • Hidden gems: Thousands of quiet, off-the-beaten-path countryside retreats perfect for a peaceful, sun-soaked escape.

Andy Le Duc, Director of Marketing and Communications at the Caravan and Motorhome Club, commented:

"Our members absolutely love making the most of the hot weather and the traditional holiday, booked months in advance, is being paired with the wonderful freedom of real-time 'weather-chasing.'  With a beautiful summer on our doorstep, our community is seizing the sunshine - looking at the weekend forecast on a Thursday and hitting the road on Friday to enjoy the very best of the British countryside.

"What's fascinating is how diverse our community's summer tactics are. While a third of holidaymakers track straight for the coastal breeze, an equal number are looking for something entirely different - whether that is heading into a shady, cool forest location, pitching next to a moving river, or finding an off-the-beaten-path countryside retreat. Touring offers the ultimate freedom to follow the sun and every one of our campsites provides a perfect, comfortable haven to enjoy the great outdoors. Whether you’re holidaying in a caravan, motorhome, campervan, roof tent, camping or glamping, we’ve got the perfect pitch for you."

How to rig your rig:  Tips for perfect summer touring

No matter which destination you choose, the Club has shared tips to maximise comfort when pitched:

  • The canopy effect: Pitch beneath natural tree lines where possible, or use reflective thermal blinds and awnings to deflect direct glare.
  • Cross-ventilation: Keep windows closed during the peak heat of the day and open them fully during cooler evening hours to trap fresh moving air.
  • Elevate your sleep: Consider a roof-tent setup if touring, as sleeping higher off the ground catches significantly better airflow.
  • Water proximity: When pitching near rivers or lakes, make the most of the natural cooling effect that moving water has on the surrounding night air.

With over 2,400 campsites across the UK open to both members and non-members, the Caravan and Motorhome Club offers the ultimate flexible, spontaneous escape to enjoy the summer on your own terms.
