Caravanner of the Year competition launched

10/08/2015

The Caravan Club has launched the first nationwide ‘Caravanner of the Year’ competition to be filmed for a BBC2 programme.

The Club will be scouring the country to find the very best of Britain’s caravanners, campervanners and motorhomers. The competition is open to individuals, couples, families or friends who regularly tour together.

Those selected for the final shortlist will face an exciting series of fun challenges that will let them demonstrate their key caravanning skills.

To enter, all applicants need to do is fill in the online application form all about their caravanning experiences. The form includes questions on touring holidays, favourite places to travel and also asks applicants to upload photos or videos of your caravan/motorhome.

‘Caravanner of the Year’ will be judged by Grenville Chamberlain, Chairman of The Caravan Club and caravanning expert Andy Harris of Motorhome Channel fame.

The Club has also enlisted two guest judges to help assess and judge the different challenges – the ‘Campervan Cook’ Martin Dorey, and Vintage Caravan Restorer, Lucy Jayne Grout.

Martin is a writer and surfer, whereas Lucy Jayne specialises in vintage caravan restoration – both are aptly qualified to guest judge in The Club’s ‘Caravanner of the Year’ competition.

Martin is a VW owner from Bude, Cornwall. He works from the attic in his house writing about VW's, camping, food, fun and simple pleasures for magazines like Motorhome and Motorcaravan Monthly and Camping Magazine, and his book, The Camper Van Cookbook.

In 2010 he presented a 10 part TV show 'One Man and his Campervan' on BBC2 based on his cookbook, and this year he will be adjudicating the competition for The Club alongside Lucy Jayne Grout.

Lucy specialises in designing small spaces and has built up a successful caravan restoration business – Lucy Jayne Caravans – where she rescues hundreds of neglected caravans from the scrapheap, lovingly restoring them for happy owners, for wedding hire and photoshoots, or just for her own collection.

The competition entries close at midnight on 16 August.
