The Gen Z reset with the Caravan and Motorhome Club
24/09/2026
Research reveals young people are feeling stressed, overwhelmed and in need of a reset, with many turning to nature to improve their wellbeing
As autumn gets underway and World Mental Health Day approaches on 10 October, the Caravan and Motorhome Club explores how young people are coping with stress, burnout, poor sleep and the dreaded "Sunday Scaries", while highlighting the role the outdoors can play in supporting mental wellbeing and helping them reset and recharge.
For many young people, autumn can be a particularly overwhelming time. Whether starting university, beginning a new academic year, returning to work after summer holidays or adjusting to shorter days and changing seasons, the transition back to day-to-day routines can take its toll.
With growing interest in outdoor holidays among younger adventurers, roof tent enthusiasts, and multigenerational families alike, the Club is helping more people discover the joys of camping, glamping and touring. Whether young adults are setting off on their first roof tent adventure or taking a camping trip, couples seeking a flexible way to holiday, or families creating memories across generations, the Club offers a range of camping, touring and Experience Freedom glamping stays to suit every style of outdoor escape. A camping, touring or glamping break in nature can provide an opportunity to pause, recharge and gain a fresh perspective.
Research from UCL found that 64% of 16-25-year-olds have experienced mental health difficulties, while 32% expect to need mental health support in the coming year, highlighting the growing challenges younger generations face.
This reflects a wider desire among younger generations to spend more time outdoors. Research from the National Trust found that 76% of children and young people would like to spend more time in nature, underlining a growing appetite to connect with the outdoors.
Dr Xand van Tulleken highlights how "walking outdoors, somewhere beautiful, can lower stress, improve sleep and lift our mood". Whether it's spending time in green spaces, enjoying outdoor adventures or embracing a camping break - reconnecting with nature can offer valuable moments to switch off and reset.
Andy Le Duc, Director of Marketing and Communications at the Caravan and Motorhome Club, said:
"The Caravan and Motorhome Club has long championed the benefits of getting outdoors and exploring. At a time when many young people are feeling overwhelmed by the demands of modern life, camping, touring and glamping offer a simple way to step back, spend time in nature and enjoy a much needed reset. From coastlines and countryside to national parks and woodland settings, our campsites and Experience Freedom glamping sites provide the perfect base for people looking to escape their routines, reconnect with nature and recharge their wellbeing. As we move into autumn and return to busy everyday routines, taking time to get outdoors can make a real difference to our mental wellbeing and provide a valuable opportunity to reset and recharge.”
Ahead of World Mental Health Day, as young people settle back into study, work and everyday routines after summer, the Club highlights the benefits of embracing the outdoors and making time for a much-needed autumn reset before the busy end-of-year period.
