Walk of the month September 2026
07/09/2026
The Caravan and Motorhome Club has unveiled its latest Walking Wanderers, Walk of the Month, spotlighting Slinfold Club Campsite in West Sussex, a peaceful countryside retreat offering direct access to scenic woodland trails, historic villages and the tranquil landscapes of the Sussex Weald.
The initiative is designed to champion the mental and physical benefits of spending time outdoors, encouraging members to lace up their walking boots and discover inspiring routes that begin right from the gates of Club campsites across the UK.
This month's route: A circular walk along the historic Downs Link from Slinfold Club Campsite.
Starting directly from Slinfold Club Campsite, the route follows part of the historic Downs Link through the West Sussex countryside, passing woodland, pastureland and quiet rural paths around the village of Slinfold.
The campsite sits on the site of Slinfold’s former railway station, with the route joining part of the Downs Link, a popular 37-mile walking, cycling and riding trail created along former railway lines connecting the Surrey Hills and South Downs.
From the campsite, the walk joins the Downs Link and continues through the Low Weald, a landscape of ancient woodland and open pasture. Walkers can enjoy the changing seasonal scenery throughout the year, from spring wildflowers to vibrant autumn colours across the Sussex countryside.
After completing the route, there is the chance to enjoy refreshments in one of Slinfold's traditional village pubs before returning to the campsite.
Route highlights include:
- Historic section of the 37-mile Downs Link trail
- Woodland and pastureland typical of the Sussex Low Weald
- Former railway heritage linked to the campsite and route
- Seasonal wildflowers and birdlife
- Traditional village pubs in Slinfold
Beyond the featured route, Slinfold Club Campsite provides easy access to a network of footpaths and the South Downs National Park, making it an excellent base for discovering the wider Sussex countryside.
The initiative takes its name from The Wanderer, the world's first leisure caravan, honouring a spirit of thoughtful exploration and the delight of discovering new places at a comfortable pace.
