Walking Wanderers Walk of the Month at Hunter’s Moon Club Campsite in Dorset
18/03/2026
The Caravan and Motorhome Club is delighted to introduce the next instalment of its Walking Wanderers: Walk of the Month series, highlighting another uplifting route that champions the simple joy of exploring on foot. This month spotlights the peaceful Hunter’s Moon Club Campsite in Dorset, the perfect starting point for relaxed rambles through open heath, woodland and the storybook scenery of Hardy’s Wessex.
The initiative continues to celebrate the mental and physical benefits of getting outdoors, encouraging members to uncover inspiring routes that begin from the doorstep of Club campsites across the UK.
This month’s walk: A nature-rich 12km wander through Hardy’s Wessex
Starting directly from Hunter’s Moon Club Campsite, this easy-going 12 km circular route follows clearly waymarked paths through open heaths, broadleaf woodland and landscapes that inspired Thomas Hardy’s Wessex novels. Walkers can also opt for a shorter 9 km version for a slightly easier loop.
Route highlights include:
- Open heathland with chances to spot rare wildlife like sand lizards and Dartford warblers
- Quiet stretches of native woodland enriched with birdsong
- Wide views across Dorset’s classic heath and forest landscapes
- The atmospheric mix of gorse, heather and low woodland that defines Purbeck
Relaxed and full of variety, it’s an effortless late-summer wander that blends big skies with quieter woodland sections.
As a base for exploring on foot, Hunter’s Moon Club Campsite sits close to the forest edge and offers easy access to the route and on-site facilities including a dog walk, information room and service points. Wareham’s cafés and pubs are close by for a well‑earned post‑walk break.
