Lovely site, great for fishing, canoeing & cycling

Arendshorst
Just returned from a 18 night stay at Arendshorst (June/July 24). The owner/staff are very friendly and there was plenty of space on the pitch, arranged around open fields. The toilets/showers (separate male/female with toilet paper & soap) were spotless and never had to queue. The hot water is on a payment card system and the amount used is deducted from the deposit taken on arrival. We took our own canoe and this was easy to launch from the site beach area. We paddled into Ommen and beyond where we found a sand/grassed area, ideal for a picnic just after the bridge in Ommen. You can paddle in the other direction however not as far due to the weir. On checking with the campsite we were advised that there is no licence needed to paddle on the river (unlike in the UK). My husband fished from the site (permit purchased from reception) and caught plenty of fish including the largest carp that he had ever caught. There are 2 small shops in Omen & Dalfsen where you can purchase bait and fishing equipment. We used the Park & Ride at Ommen train station to visit Zwolle (about 20 mins, approx 11.50 euros each) where there are multiple shops, bars and museums including a Primark and also another very large fishing accessory shop just outside the town centre. There is also a large market at Ommen on a Tuesday. I would recommend the use of a bike to explore the area unless you are happy to use your vehicle as there is nowhere close to walk to but there are miles and miles of flat cycle paths direct from the site (we covered 166 miles during our stay). Overall we enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

Peaceful site by idyllic river setting

Arendshorst
Stopped here for a couple of nights in June 23 on our way to Denmark. The site is fantastic, we were pitched on a spacious spot just back from the river, where you can fish or just sit on one of the benches and watch the wildlife. The facilities are spotless and plentiful. There is a bar and a small shop where you can buy fresh bakery products in the morning. The site is great for cycling (flat!) into nearby Ommen where there are great bars and restaurants. Overall a great site. Thanks

Relaxing stay on a beautiful and tranquill site

Arendshorst
In August 2022 we embarked on our first trip abroad with our caravan and concur, with an earlier review, that we couldn't believe that just 2.5 hours for the Hook of Holland we found ourselves in an area of the National Park on a family run site which was both peaceful and tranquil and it stayed that way for our entire stay. On arrival we received a warm and friendly welcome and a complimentary bottle of chilled white wine (we had booked a 10 day stay on the site). The plots are spacious with electricity, water and drainage so we were quickly set up. Facilities were clean and tidy. All the staff and family were very helpful throughout our stay and there was an onsite bar with a takeaway service available and fresh bread and pastries available to order each day. With the river running alongside this is a great site for fishing, swimming and paddle boarding plus cycling with easy access to the fantastic Dutch cycle routes and the nearby town of Ommen with it's local and farmers markets, supermarkets and home to a kite museum, where you can try your hand at making your own kite! You couldn't help but relax on this site and we will definitely be back.

This is the best site we have visited all year

Arendshorst
We visited this site early September 2022 and fell in love with the place. It is in a beautiful setting with so much to do and see in the local area. We had our 2 dogs with us and they were also made to feel very welcome and our younger dog absolutely loved swimming in the river. The pitches are big and we had water and electric points on our pitch. The family that run the park are really lovely and make you feel welcome. We did lots of cycling during our stay and visited nearby towns of Ommen and Dalfsen and were lucky enough to be visiting during the Dalfsen Bier Festival. Many people we met spoke good English which really helped with the language barrier as my Dutch is non existent currently. We went on the Ommen River cruise and they also allowed our dogs on board free of charge. It is very good value for money and you get to see lots of lovely countryside on a peaceful cruise down the Vecht. One note of warning though, we found very few shops or businesses that would accept our credit or debit cards. I even took a pre-paid Caxton card and even struggled to use that so I'd highly recommend you have cash at all times. Apparently the businesses get charged high fees for taking payment from overseas bank cards so they insist on cash instead. We will definitely be returning to Resort de Arendshorst next year :)

Excellent location for cycling, quiet spacious tranquil site

Arendshorst
July 22 on a fully serviced pitch. Arrived in very hot dry weather. Large spacious site with a children's padding pool and river running alongside with access for boats canoes etc and swimming. The site is in a beautiful national park with lots of woodland and has direct access to a vast network of very safe cycling routes. A biker's heaven. The Dutch are years ahead with prepared route both through towns and throughout the countryside. Perfect for young families although perhaps a little quiet for teenagers . Basic supplies were available from the site shop and food could be pre-ordered from the site bar. At the time we were there, food was only available as take away (presumably COVID restrictions). Supermarkets were only 5mins away in the nearby town of Ommen. To make this site perfect, an upgrade of the pool depth to allow adults to swim would be great. The site owners were very helpful and friendly. Overall we loved the site and the area, and would definately return.
