You land in the buzzing, vibrant city of Melbourne - brimful of cafés and world-class street art. Once you’ve recovered from your flight, you can pick up your motorhome on the third day and begin your exploration proper!
We recommend starting in the Yarra Valley in the heart of Victoria’s wine region. From there, it’s an easy couple of days’ journey to Phillip Island and the Koala Conservation Centre on tiny Churchill Island.
Top tip: As dusk settles, don’t miss the world-famous Penguin Parade, where tiny fairy penguins waddle back to their burrows in the sand.

From Phillip Island, you could head to the Mornington Peninsula (and maybe chill out for a bit at the Hot Springs). Perhaps take lunch by the seaside in charming Sorrento before taking the ferry to Queenscliff, with its proud military and maritime history.
Now it’s time to hit the Great Ocean Road - a spectacular stretch of highway where rainforest meets the sea. This is the ideal chance to check out some of the world’s greatest surfers, as they ride the waves on Bells Beach.
Top tip: The coastal town of Lorne is the perfect lunch stop.

You can take your time along the Great Ocean Road, but our recommended stops include Apollo Bay (also famous for fabulous surfing). Along the way you can take in the glorious limestone stacks known as The Twelve Apostles, and the hidden beach at the end of Loch Ard Gorge.
Top tip: Take in the stunning views from the London Arch and The Grotto.

Once you reach the city of Warnambool, you can turn inland and head towards Halls Gap (we’d allow a couple of days). Now, the landscape shifts from coastal cliffs to the rugged peaks of the Grampians National Park.
Top tip: Why not take a hike to The Pinnacle? A lookout where panoramic views stretch endlessly across the ranges - it’s spectacular!

Halls Gap marks the start of your time in South Australia, as you drive down to the charming seaside town of Robe.
Top tip: On the way, a stop at Mount Gambier’s Blue Lake is a must, where the crater lake turns an electric cobalt blue during the summer months.

Now you’re on the final stretch, driving through the lush rolling hills of the Fleurieu Peninsula towards one last stop at Mount Compass, an artisan food haven lying amongst green pastures. Tomorrow it’s time to take back your motorhome before you head back home. Your road trip may have ended - but your memories will last forever.
Top tip: As the road winds towards McLaren Vale, the vineyards invite one last indulgence, with world-renowned Shiraz.
