From the ‘Garden City’ of Christchurch to the bustling harbours of Auckland, discover the stunning landscapes and rich culture of New Zealand on this 16-day journey. If you prefer a more relaxed pace, or if you'd like to enjoy an extended adventure, we can easily add extra nights for you.
You'll arrive in Christchurch for your first night’s stay on New Zealand’s South Island. After a good night’s rest and breakfast, it’s time to collect your motorhome! You can either hit the road straight away, or stay and take in some of the local sights.
Top tip: Breathe in the beauty of the Botanic Gardens with a hop-on hop-off electric shuttle bus tour.

When you’re ready, set off along the stunning coastal route to Kaikoura, a coastal town which is famous for its abundant wildlife and sperm whale population. Arrive in Kaikoura and take a whale-watching tour or swim with dolphins.
Top tip: Along the road to Kaikoura why not stop at Gore Bay to see the Cathedral Cliffs?

Continue north along State Highway 1, passing through the rolling vineyards of Marlborough to the quiet town of Picton. Take a scenic cruise or enjoy a hike around the picturesque Marlborough Sounds.
Now you pick up a ferry for the crossing over the Cook Strait to Wellington, New Zealand’s capital. You can spend the afternoon exploring this vibrant city - visit Te Papa Museum, ride the historic cable car, and take a stroll amongst the shops and cafés along Cuba Street.
Top tip: Take a guided tour around The Beehive - New Zealand’s parliament building.

Depart from Wellington early and drive north through rolling countryside, past the stunning volcanic landscapes of Tongariro National Park. Your destination is Taupo, where you can soak in the geothermal hot springs or take a boat trip to see the Māori rock carvings.
A short but scenic drive takes you onwards to Rotorua, the heart of geothermal activity and Māori culture. Witness bubbling mud pools, experience a traditional hangi feast, or take on adrenaline-fueled activities like the Skyline Luge or Zorb.
Top tip: Take a little time out to soak in Rotorua’s natural, spring-fed alkaline and acidic hot pools.

Head north toward the Coromandel Peninsula and spend a couple of nights in Thames, a charming town with a rich gold-mining history. Enjoy a relaxed wander exploring local markets or walking along the waterfront.
Top tip: Visit the School of Mines & Mineralogical Museum, one of New Zealand’s largest and best-preserved mining schools.

Time to head back to Auckland, and reflect on your incredible journey before returning your motorhome and making your way to the airport.
