The Whitegate Way was the old salt railway line that carried salt for almost 100 years, from the River Weaver up to Cuddington where it joined the Chester to Manchester main line. It finally closed in 1966 and today you can enjoy a picnic at Whitegate Station, the only station along the way. Walk, ride or cycle along the Whitegate Way, an ideal traffic-free link from Winsford to Cuddington, near Delamere Forest Park. Shady wooded cuttings contrast with sunny open embankments, offering spectacular views over the Cheshire countryside.
Whatever the season, Cheshire's delightful countryside provides an ideal refuge from the pressures of everyday life. Gem of a site and great walking from site
Acorns Caravan Park
Since there hasn’t been a review since 2017 thought I had better update it.
My wife and I stayed on this site for three nights this last weekend it is easy to find down a quiet lane with no road noise at all.
On arrival our name and pitch number was on a board and after pitching up I went to meet the lovely owner who made us most welcome explaining the locality and provided a map with all the local walks on direct from site. The walks are all through woodland field and around lakes in a flat area. A few hundred yards from the site is a small cafe which is run by volunteers and provide reasonable priced snacks homemade cakes and drinks. There is plenty of wildlife and birds in the area.
The site is adjacent to a commercial site of about 15 vans but this is very quiet and causes no issues.the site is basic with no toilet or showers but we don’t use them anyway as we use our own facilities. Although only 10am never had a problem.
A lovely site set in idilic surroundings worth a visit we will be back. Thanks for a lovely stay.

We visited this site for Easter break 2017. The CL is attatched to a larger site, Drive through the larger site about 20 units into a smaller area which is the cl. Well laid out , short mown grass and hard standing. Not a big area but ample space. The 5 cl units back on to the Whitegate way. A beautiful walk , paradise for dog walkers, cyclists and joggers alike. Our dog loved the freedom of off lead walking here, yes she is well behaved and well trained. To walk along what was once a train track, is flat and leval, with birds in abundance. The drawback with this site is the 10 amp electric, for £14 a night with no facitlities and the electric going off quite a few times is not good. But the weather was cold especially at night and the site full being a bank holiday. We had a lovely visit to the Anderton Boat Lift, and nature reserve just 7 miles away and Chester just 15 miles away. For a treat we bought Groupon afternoon tea at Patiserie Valerie for £19 for 2 people,very yummy
My first CL, what a great one!
Acorns Caravan Park
Just stayed two nights at Acorns CL. Very friendly owner who gave me details of walks and the local cafe and pub on arrival.
Cost was £14 per night, which included EHU, awning and dog.
The pitches are level and hard standing, sheltered at the rear by trees. Access from the site straight onto the Whitegate Way, perfect for walks, cycling, running and dog walking.
The area is beautiful, great footpaths and walks.
Highly recommend The Plough pub at Beauty Bank, great food and very friendly.
Access is quite a tight right hand turn, ensure you swing out enough to get through.
I recommend this site and would definitely visit again.

Acorns Caravan Park
An excellent CL with friendly owner, dogs are welcomed and the site is right next to a converted railway track walk.
The pitches are all hardstanding but may be considered close to one another by some members.
Access is down an unadopted lane which is a little bumpy with a tight right turn into the main caravan site also run by the same owner.
A well kept CL which I would recommend to other members.
Great Walking
Acorns Caravan Park
Recently spent a weekend at this very nice site. Although listed as a CL it is adjoining a larger site with approximately 15 pitches. The CL states adults only but the larger site has a large proportion of seasonal caravans, many of which were occupied by families with children. At the time of booking we were unaware of the larger site and thought we had booked a pitch on a CL. On arrival we discovered that our pitch was on the larger site – this was because the CL was full and actually was not a problem for us. We had a very nice pitch, level hardstanding but we did have to drive over the grass to the pitch. This is the case for all of the pitches on the CL too. The larger site has a big grassy area in the middle where children played football – this didn’t bother us but could be a problem for someone booking what appears to be an adult only site. We were charged £14.00 per night but not sure if this was because we weren’t on the CL.
Very warm welcome from the owner who encouraged us to stay longer on Sunday to make the most of the day.
The site is next to a working farm so there is some early morning activity with large farm vehicles driving along the access lane but this really wasn’t a problem.
The best feature for us was the easy access onto the Whitegate Way – a 6 mile dismantled railway line – just through the gate, straight onto the path. Lots of options for walking along the trail with diversions off to make circular walks. The site is midway along the trail so walks can be done in either direction.
No toilets or showers so you need to use your van’s facilities.
Good weather made the weekend very enjoyable. Very relaxing site with friendly owners. Will definitely return and would recommend to anyone wanting easy walking without any need to drive once on site. The dog enjoyed it too – he came home exhausted!
