Gosforth Certificated Locations

A village in Cumbria's Lake District, Gosforth is a tranquil spot with plenty of natural beauty - and it's a great base for enjoying the expansive open areas nearby.

The town is very close to the Eskdale and Wasdale valleys, and these both provide plenty of walking routes. There's also Blengdale Forest, which offers superb trails along the River Bleng and towards the ancient Monks Bridge on Cold Fell.

If you prefer to stay in the town, be sure to visit the churchyard at St Mary's. It includes an intriguing stone cross that dates back to Viking times and demonstrates the transition from pagan to Christian beliefs. Measuring 14 feet high, the cross is set in a stepped stone base and features carvings with both Viking and Christian symbols, including the crucifixion and the pagan god Loki.
